Hi Kelly, I think it can work. It depends on your group. I have had a 3rd grade teacher tell me it worked well (they only used pieces of each slide) and a fourth grade teacher tell me it was useful for fourth grade standards. I had one fifth grade teacher say it didn't work for her, and one recently that told me it was great! I originally had it marked for 5th and up, but when I got feedback from that one fifth grade teacher, I changed the the grade level range. I am sure you will be able to use it as long as you adjust to your kiddos...let me know how it works for you! Deborah

Hi Jeffrey,
I took a screenshot of my slide, and then pasted it into Microsoft Picture Manager. From there I named my file, cropped it, and compressed the photo into a manageable size for the web, saving the new file. That is the file I upload to my TPT store. :)

Hello! To be honest, I have the prompts marked for third grade and above for independent writing. However, with scaffolding and support, I think many of them could be used for first graders, as long as they have guidance. There is nothing inappropriate, but the tasks could be challenging. For instance, I think they would need assistance with background knowledge with writing a conversation between two pieces of trash or writing a trash glossary or a job description for a garbage man.

I love this! We are finishing up our poetry unit soon! This will be perfect. Quick question: Do the poems contain sound devices such as alliteration and repetition or just rhyming words? Also, do they have figurative language?

Well, when I was writing them, I do remember thinking I have to put in some figurative language...that's what I teach the kids to do! :) So, I know I did put alliteration, repetition, and some imagery and other types of figurative language. Your question brought about an update! I just went through the poems and made a slide to identify them! Poetry is such fun! I hope you enjoy the poems, and of course, all future updates. Thanks!

Some people do make all the materials and sell them as well. You can find just about anything you need here, and if you don't, you can make a request for someone to make what you want. Yes, I did that. I really do know how to save. :) I also downloaded a different 9-11 ppt from TPT and it saved as a ppt and I'm able to edit it. Your ppt shows in my Downloads on my computer files. But when I end the show it goes back directly to TPT. I do not get an option to save it as anything else or see the slide frames like a normal show. When I open it from the file on my computer, it goes directly to the first slide as a slideshow. I've tried this on 2 computers now. [Although I love the entire presentation, I'm most concerned about the slides that show people hurt - and the body falling off the building. Just don't want to go there w/10 & 11 yr olds.]

This is how you can edit: When you download, save the file. I usually choose "save as" and put it in a folder I will remember how to find. Then, don't open the file. If you open the file, it will open automatically as a PowerPoint show. Open your PowePoint program first. If you open your PowerPoint program first and then open it, it should come up as slides, which you can edit. At least that works for me using PowerPoint 2007. I just tried it again, and it worked. Peak is a great story, especially for reluctant boys! The main conflict is about a boy named Peak who loves to climb, but almost lands in jail for climbing a skyscraper in N.Y. He has two choices, go to juvenile detention or go live with his estranged father. He chooses his father, and thinks he will go live with him in his home and get a chance to bond with him. However, his father has something different in mind. He wants him to be the youngest person to climb Mt. Everest. He struggles with the idea of being used by his father for personal gain, and he also discovers that there is another kid who is attempting to be the youngest climber who is a week younger than he is. They battle it out against a rugged mountain. The theme is about personal growth and overcoming challenges as Peak struggles with these internal and external conflicts. In the resolution, generosity of spirit triumphs over selfishness. Hope this will help you!

Seems like you have Ch. 1-3 "Word wall/Question/Answers", but I didn't see the rest of the chapters except for the word wall on ch. 4-7. Let me know. Thanks again. Because of copyright laws, I cannot sell the music. I can only recommend that you play those songs with it. They can be downloaded from most music websites. Once you download the songs, you can embed the audio into the show if you desire, or you can play the mp3's with it on Media Player while it is playing. I am sorry I cannot include the songs with the PowerPoint, but it is not legal.

I have a total of 21 years teaching experience. After I received my M.Ed. from the University of Florida, I began teaching in elementary school, where I taught pull-out remedial classes for grades 2-5 and a section of K-1. Then I taught Pre-K for 5 years, before I decided to go up to Middle School, where I have been in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I am currently teaching 7th grade where I seem to have found my niche. I am certified in Elementary Education as well as in Middle Grades in the areas of Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. I am also certified as a Teacher Support Specialist. I have an endorsement as a Reading Specialist K-12, and I also completed my Gifted and Talented Endorsement.
