HI
How do you do this lesson with your class? Do you e mail it to the students?

Hello!

I have used it in a variety of ways. In one of my past schools, we had a school network, so I posted it on the in-school network. Another time, I e-mailed it to each students' e-mail address. I have also used it in a one-computer classroom, where I simply had it in a folder on the desktop. This year, my students use Edmodo, so I post them to our classroom space there.

You are free to place it anywhere that is NOT public (For example, you may not list them on your class blog), but that your students may access.

I hope this clarifies.

2purplelegs re: Exploring Africa - Informational Power Point
I am interested in your project but I am unfamiliar with glogsters. I would like to purchase the power point and the packet that students fill out along with the power point. If I purchase this item does it come with the power point and the packet? Can you tell me a little bit about glogsters? Is it a service that I would need to purchase?
April 14, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Heidi Raki
Heidi Raki  (TpT Seller)
Glogster is a free website where students can create online posters called glogsters. The site is http://edu.glogster.com/. They are simple and easy to create. This project could be done - with a few slight tweaks - with regular posters, but it is more impactful with glogsters because students can add video clips and can link their glogsters together, creating a mini-website.

The Exploring Africa Unit includes the PowerPoint , the packet, the project and the mask craftivity. The PowerPoint just includes the Power Point alone. The Packet just includes the packet and the project.

I hope this better explains. Please feel free to e-mail me at hlraki@hotmail.com with any further questions.

Heidi Raki  (TpT Seller)
No, the easiest way is to add text boxes. Be sure to make your text boxes "in front of text" so that they will be able to be made moveable. I hadn't added text boxes, because I originally put this up after a request to be able to add pictures to it. Now I'm thinking maybe I need to put them in. If I get to it, I'll try to upload a version with text boxes this evening. Thank you for bringing to my attention that this might be needed.

Are there specific lessons with this packet? I was wondering if it was something one of my paras could follow?
March 7, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Heidi Raki
Heidi Raki  (TpT Seller)
The packets walk the kids through the steps of the writing process in a simplified way - a brainstorming map, a place to draft, a checklist to look for editing & revising mistakes, a place to conference with a partner and a place to conference with their teacher. Each routine is repeated for the 9 prompts, so that kids get used to each part of the writing process.

I think it could easily be left with a para. I designed it to use as an individual writing station for my 1st graders and trained them to work through all the steps and then ask for a conference.

Try this Free Information Prompt to see if it would work for your paras in your classroom.

My husband and I are busily splitting our store so that all of the foreign language resources (French, Spanish and Arabic) will be located in a separate TPT store called Raki's Rad Language Resources - http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Rakis-Rad-Language-Resources. Hi,

I'm interested in word problems that adhere to Common Core 6th grade EE and NS. The word problem should be a story close to real life that children will find practical and can relate to. My plan is to show these problems visually. Do you have a set that caters to these requirements, or can you create them for us? Let us know at rjeagle@rjeagle.com.

Thanks

Big difference between 1st and 6th graders. What grade is this most geared towards? What grade were you teaching when this was created?
December 19, 2012 Report inappropriate comment
Heidi Raki
Heidi Raki  (TpT Seller)
I was teaching 3rd grade when I created this project, and I don't usually put this large of a range on my listings, but my son's first grade teacher begged me for this because it was exactly what she was looking for. Another friend of mine uses it as a review for her 6th graders at the beginning of each school year. So as you can see, it was a hard product for me to put a range on. If you have the time, feel free to download the preview file, it shows exactly what is on each page and should help you gauge if it is the right level for your students.

Thanks for taking the time to ask a question.

Hi Heidi -- I started using this with my class, and we just love it. I was wondering, though, why the number of points the students can earn is 15 points, but the score is reported out of 10 points. The front cover suggests that the total score for each problem should be 10, also. I "fudged" the points for the different sections a little to get them to equal 10. Just wanted to make sure you knew about the discrepancy. It's a great idea for problem solving, no matter how many points the questions are worth! Thanks again!

Kim,
Thank you for your question. I think this may be an issue of the font making the 3 look like an 8. Each problem should be scored out of 10 points - 2 points for creating a plan, 4 points for working out the problem and showing each step, 3 points for explaining the why their answer is reasonable, and 1 point for having the correct answer. I hope this clarifies. Please feel free to ask for additional clarification by e-mailing me at hlraki@hotmail.com

Under the one about skin coverings, one of the lables is shell, there are no animals pictured that have a shell. Heidi Raki  (TpT Seller)
Thank you for your question. There is nothing in those sections on purpose. Whenever I do sorts, I try to talk to my kids about the fact that although there is a category, that doesn't automatically mean something will fall there. This prepares them for the type of thinking that goes into "all of the above" and "none of the above" questions that comes up on my standardized tests, as well as many real world situations. Sometimes, during a review, I will ask students to draw in something that might have fit into that empty category.

Heidi,
I just purchased several of your products. They are a great resource! I do have a request, would you be able to change the font on the Word Family Word Wall Cards? I plan on using these as spelling words and would prefer the font to be more of a Zaner-Bloser or Century Gothic font so it is easier for my kids to read and copy down. Please let me know. Thank you, Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Thank you so much for your interest in these products. I'm glad you like them. I used them last year for my spelling words, and it worked out great!

I chose the font on these cards to match the font on all of my other word wall products, including my phonics posters. Because they are a set, I will be unable to change this product. However, I bet you'll be surprised at how fast your kids get used to this font. Once my kids were used to this font, they had no problem reading the words.

Since I am unable to grant your request, I'd be happy to send you a free product of your choosing. Just e-mail me at hlraki@hotmail.com and let me know which product you desire.

I absolutely love your self correcting puzzles, I was wondering if you would maybe add 'gris' and 'rose' to your self correcting colour puzzle?

Would you please tell me what word families are included? I am thinking about using this resource to teach Kindergarten spelling and want to make sure there are easier ones such as "at, it, etc.". I also want to make sure the words have mainly 2-5 letters. Thank you, Lisa

Hi Sara,
I've been thinking of adjusting my sight words to match the Dolch Word List. Can you send me a link or a list of the words as you use them to my email: hlraki@hotmail.com? I will get them updated as quickly as possible.

Hello again!

Just wanted to know if it would be possible to provide response sheets with the Playing Card Mats. It would help the children be more accountable. I WILL pay for them. Thanks so much! Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

Right now, there are two response sheets in the E-Book, one for primary and one for intermediate grades. If those won't fit your needs, please feel free to email me at hlraki@hotmail.com and I will be happy to custom make a sheet that will work for you. I will also check on the Basic Subtraction Mat this evening after work. Have a great day!

Good Morning! I learned of your work through a post on my FB. I just downloaded the Playing Card Mats for Math Centers~ the Primary Edition. THANK YOU! They are wonderful. I am going to get them ready for my new Kinders. However, when I looked at the Basic Subtraction, there were 2 boxes after the equals sign. Is this the way it should be? Thanks again for your freebie and your help.

Hi Heidi,
This resource looks amazing and you are so kind to share it for free. Just to let you know I believe there is a typo for the word capital. You have spelled it with an "o" .
It should be capital letter and capitals.

Thanks Ashley! I have 3 "sets", one for <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Word-Family-Word-Wall-Card-Package-41-sets"> word wall cards </a>, one for <a hrf=”http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Word-Family-File-Folder-Game-Packet-41-Games”> file folder games</a> and one for the <a href=”http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Word-Family-Making-Words-Center-Package-of-41-Centers”>making words centers</a>. When the self correcting puzzles are complete (I’m working on them a little at a time.) there will be a set of those too. Unfortunately, if I group the sets together, the zip file gets too big to upload!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I currently teach a mixed age class of 3rd and 4th graders at the International School of Morocco. Previously, I have taught 1st grade and 3rd grade, as well as teaching all grade levels in the computer lab at a Title I school in Georgia. Although it is challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw University, and a master's degree in Instruction and Curriculum Design focused in Technology from Grand Canyon University. Through inservices provided by my county, I am also SIOP (Sheltered Instructional Observation Protocol) trained, and have recieved my certification in ESOL.
