Hi Jen!
I absolutely love your products and your blog! I do have a question regarding the RTI forms you have in the Digging Deeper Assessments binder. I really like how the master form allows a teacher to record all their information in one spot for quick access and analysis. Are those forms available on Teachers Pay Teachers or is that something you would be willing to share? I am working on developing binders for my teachers and would like to use yours as a model to work from. Thank you so much!

Clip Art by Carrie Teaching First  (TpT Seller) re: RTI: Fluency Sentences for Progress Monitoring Phonics Interventions
Hi Jen, I just started using the short vowel sentence fluency sheets. I love them! We are on probe number 4 and I also noticed some discrepancies from the student sheet to the teacher sheets.

The first line on the student sheet the word "red" is left out. The students sheet only says "The bug...". And the teacher scoring sheet says "The red bug..."

On line 4 for the teacher sheet it says "A jug of pop..." instead of "A jug of tea..."

Hi Jen,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.
I am interested in the following: ou, ow, oi, oy, au, aw, ew - or any others that are fairly common in elementary grades.

Also, do you have the same for R-Controlled Patterns?

I love your resources as an intervention teacher. They have been wonderful!!

PS - when do you think your next PM pack will be finished?

Hi Jen,
I am looking for some progress monitoring resources on diphthongs. I have purchased your RTI fluences sentences, words and passages. I love all of them and use them regularly. The diphthongs seems to be embedded into a few of the Long Vowel sections. However, I am looking for something more specific..... just like you have sections on short vowels, Long vowels silent e, etc...... Any suggestions? Thank you

Thanks Jen! I believe our school will be buying The Units of Study by Lucy, but I feel it will probably be a bit overwhelming to most of them. I have looked at some on TPT are much easier to read and a lot more realistic for a teacher and the amount of time she has in the classroom. I just would like your opinion on which ones you think are maybe the best match for us. I will email you. Thanks!

Sure. I agree. The Units of Study, especially the new ones ARE overwhelming, especially if your school have not adopted the Writing Workshop philosophy either. I'm not sure "which ones" are out there on TpT, but I'd be happy to give you my opinion if you let me know which ones you're thinking of. Kathi and I are co-presenting to a school in Georgia in September a 2 day workshop on Writing...one day on Writing Workshop (Lucy-style) and the other day on Writing in the Content Areas. Shoot me an email and let me know what you're looking at.

Hi Jen! Our school is planning on implementing Writer's Workshop for k-5 next year. We are looking for a teacher friendly bundle for each grade level. Could you possibly point me in that direction? We aren't married to a certain person, but we want to try the concept, and we want it to be realistic for us to do and in teacher friendly terminology, LOL. :) It's our desire to not have teacher burn out or a program that is so darn complicated, that noone wants to dare try it. Thanks for any help you can give! We will be trying Reading Workshop the next year, so I plan on using your stuff! :) I love it.

I can point you in the direction of some free stuff that's out there, that's pretty good. Without buying the actual units of study from Heinemann for WW, I don't know of any TpT resource for WW for each grade K-5. However, my Two Peas partner, Kathi, is retiring in June and will starting a her own TpT store with a focus on Writing Workshop....she's been trained by Lucy.

Email me for the other writing stuff.

He is in 2nd grade and an ELL student. He is reading on a DRA D. We are working on short sounds and short patterns and single sounds, because some days he gets it and others not. We are also doing them as nonsense so that he will learn to apply what he is segmenting and apply it when reading unknown words. He is also having to transfer this into his writing as well. You may also consider my Phonics Sentences, there are sentences for fluency with all short vowels words in there if you saw him moving beyond reading words and wanted to move to sentences but not passages.

Hi There!
I am currently subbing in a Long term position for 4th grade. I am trying to get back into a routine with the kids and I will be starting reading groups. I have been working with the other 4th grade teachers and they mentioned that at this point in the year 4th grade should mostly be focusing on reading informational texts from now until the end of school (aside from their DEAR time choices which are mostly fiction). I have grouped them by their Running Record levels and I am printing Informational Texts off of Reading A-Z to use with the groups. The site only comes with a couple comprehension pages and I want the students to get more out of reading it and improve comprehending these types of texts. Of course I need to follow the common core as we all do! So do you recommend any types of generic comprehension/graphic organizer pages I can use while reading with my groups? Thanks so much!
March 27, 2014 Report inappropriate comment
Hello Literacy
Hello Literacy  (TpT Seller)
Hi Jackie,
I have a set of Informational and Fiction graphic organizers to match each common core standard, but I would not recommend only providing instruction on nonfiction only from now to the end of the year. The 50/50 split expectation of the common core is intended to be across their day in all subject areas, not just reading time. When you say all students are reading mostly fiction in their independent reading baskets, and teachers are not providing guided reading instruction on fiction anymore, that tells me that all the students have mastered all the RL standards for the grade level already, is that true? If not, then guided instruction in the fiction standards as well, should not be overlooked. In real life and on end of grade tests, there will be a mix of both types of text.

Here is a link to my graphic organizers per common core standard:

Hi Ruthanne! My kids kept track of how many hashtags they knew in a set while learning the set. 1st column is a baseline, then a few days later after some practice, then once more before learning all 20. I expected them to set 20 as their goal. The bars would get increasingly higher with more exposure to each set of words in that set. When they reached 20, and they could read all the hashtags in that set, I would give them a certificate, my a C next to their name on the Class List sheet (for that set) and issue them the next set of words. Hope that helps! Jen

I am having huge issues trying to unzip a file (the chalkboard labels) and I'm not sure what to do. My district computer does not have Vista 7 or 8 and I am wondering if I need this to continue?
thanks for your help,
Lisa Mccall

No, I don't think you need that to continue. I don't have Vista 7 or 8, so that is not the issue. What unzipping program are you using. If your computer doesn't have one as a default, I have had good luck with this free one.

If this doesn't work, utilize the "Submit a Ticket" option at the TpT Help window. The technical folks at TpT can help you probably better.
Thanks,
Jen

I love your reading mentor texts lists and use them all the time! I was wondering if you have ever made any mentor text lists for writing, either by standard or by genre. For example, our next unit (tied to the narrative standards) is to teach memoir, but that's hard to find good mentor texts for, especially for primary. Are you working on something similar, or do you have a good place I could look?

I don't and haven't, but I'll ask Kathi, my Hello Two Peas partner, she knows mentor texts for writing! I'll get back to you!

Thanks for the quick reply. Some websites are now offering the option of printing the article as a PDF, thank goodness, but I hope someone jumps on that idea! That was pretty cool. :{

Buyer re: RTI: 125 CBM's for Progress Monitoring Foundational Literacy Interventions-Set 1
Dear Jen,
I purchased Foundation RTi for $10 (Oct.) and love it. I noticed today (finally) that passages 10-44 are missing. Can I receive those passages soon? Thanks , Ms. Jones. :)

Is there a keyboard map for your fonts that are pictures (ie: Hello Doodles)? I own your commercial license and don't see one in the download. I just want to save a little time instead of clicking the entire keyboard to figure out which doodle goes with which key :) Thanks for your time and your amazing creativity!

Hi! I just purchased the planet earth fluency cards and love them. My students did notice a couple typos-

On task card #13, mean should be means
On card #16, there should be a comma after ground water
On card # 18 there should be a comma after nature

#2 on the artifact sheet should be of instead of off
#11 has a comma that isn't needed
#13 on the sheet repeats the word study
#9 on the sheet last should be least

Thank you so much! I can't wait to see more fluency fact centers. They are the most request item by my kids.

Thanks for taking the time to type these out...I fixed these typos and reuploaded the set to TpT. Maybe I better email you the Wacky Weather cards before I upload them. ;-)

Thanks again! You're an angel! Your comment is a good reminder for me to slow down.

I was wondering have you ever, or would you ever consider being a long distance mentor? I am a 3rd grade teacher and reading specialist in a very small district in Massachusetts. I am desperate to find and connect with like minded professionals and would really like to have an enthusiastic mentor to keep me on my "professional toes"....I have searched and tried close to home and am so sad to report that my attempts have been futile. I follow your blog religiously, have purchased many of your products.....and would love to begin a dialogue.......if you are willing!!! Thanks so much.

Hi Michelle! As much as I would love to be a personal mentor, I cannot commit to that right now, but keep reading my blog and following my store and Hello Literacy Facebook page, and Twitter. I follow lots of great reading folks on Twitter that keep *me* on my professional toes. I stay current by reading the last books in reading education and follow Common Core blogs like Timothy Shanahan and Burkins and Yaris. The internet is such a blessing because there are so many professional learning networks already out there. I belong to several through LinkedIn as well.
Good luck!

Hi there! I was wondering if you could help me. I was on your blog, and I fa site called www.joliprint.com and you said it could turn on line articles into PDF, so that you could use them in the class. But, when I clicked on it. It was a marketing site, and I could see where it showed you how to turn the article into a PDF. Can you help me? Thanks!!!

Hi Jen,

I just downloaded your K-2 reponse to informational text packet and I was going to print part for a lesson today when I noticed that on page 11 of the document, with the lines printed for the wondering response it says "story" instead of "text" on the line "When I heard this part of the 'story'"... just trying to use common language and not confuse my kids in regards to fiction and nonfiction. Any chance we can fix this?

Hi there, I purchased your Rainbow words set. I didn't see the words that you print out on the colored paper to laminate and put on the rings. I see the assessing list - are those the ones I am supposed to use. I am wondering if I just don't see it. Thank you.

Hi!
Sure, the words you print out on colored paper are in a folder in the zip file called Small RW (Rainbow Words) for Student Rings.
Thanks,

Nancy D. re: Common Core RIT: Reading Comprehension Sheets for 3-6 Informational Standards
Hi Jen,
First and foremost...wonderful product and resource! Absolutely love the variety of activities for the standards. Your hard work definitely shows. Now, just a little FYI! I noticed when I was looking at p. 103 for planning purposes I believe the "a" in front of the word "article" should be "an." What's your take on that?
Thanks,
Nancy
