Hi,
Last year, I downloaded your GENRES powerpoint and did not use it. This year, I'd like to use it, but with modifications- however, it's SECURED, and password protected. Since I am using it with second grade, I'd like to add images/book covers to some of the genre slides and cut down on some of the quiz questions. Can you send me the modification password or an editable version? Thanks!

Thank you so much for bringing that issue to my attention! When I uploaded that file, I had edited it from my polka dots version and didn't realize the credits were missing! I had also made a new file months back with the quotation marks in a different font that shows up better and it never uploaded that file! It hopefully works now if you'd like the updated one. Thanks for being so helpful! I really appreciate it!

Buyer re: Multiple Meaning Word Multiple Choice Questions
Are these good sixth grade words or more low level words?
April 26, 2013
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
I have used these with the 6th graders I currently teach. The higher level students do very well on them, but they are a challenge for my lower level students. Here are some of the multiple meaning words included: might, ruler, eye, period, time, seal, crash, point, tire, and shape. We typically do 10-20 of them at a time, and about half of my class will get 100% each time.

can you make more of these?? I have year 3 and 4's so harder tallies
Cheers Di
April 1, 2013
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
I will add them to my "to do" list. It might be challenging to make the tally marks small enough to get so many on a page. However, I'll give it a shot. It may not be until June/July until I'm able to get to this. Please follow me by clicking on the red star above. Thanks for the idea! =)

Sonja Kepe  (TpT Seller)
Another question. How do you make all the magic squares? Copy/paste the images or you insert them automatically - eg. with Excel or similar program? I like your work but we have to give our children magic squares in slovenian language so we have to make our own magic square. We don't have problems with words m. squares, but with those with images we do - it takes a long time to put them right, to check if the squares are right ... Any advice will be appreciated.
February 3, 2013
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
I have used Excel and Word in the past. Currently I am using PowerPoint to create my documents. It does take a long time to get everything lined up correctly. So unfortunately there is not an "easy" or "quick" way to do this. Good luck to you here on TpT!
February 3, 2013

Sonja Kepe  (TpT Seller)
Thanks for pointing me to the right direction.

I and my fellow coworkers are curious how did you make the circles that represent fractions. Did you make them manually or with some kind of program?

I'm glad you like it, Sonja! I actually buy almost all of my clipart right here on TpT. This particular set comes from Jason's Online Classroom - http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Fraction-Circles-Clipart There are a bunch of colors to choose from. I hope they work well for you!

Hi...I would like to print the file I purchased. Why it the PDF secure?

Sue
November 19, 2012
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
You should be able to print the pdf. Securing it simply made it so no one can lift the clipart out of it. Please feel free to e-mail me at hojostptstore@yahoo.com and I will get the file sent to you that way. Thank you for contacting me about this issue!

Great! Glad to hear it worked for you! Please don't hesitate to ask another question or e-mail me if you have any problems or questions. Welcome to TpT! I hope you get as addicted as everyone else here! (Myself included!!) ;)
October 30, 2012

My first time using TPT. Just bought and downloaded 2 of your items. Both said "Problem reading this file" and would not open. I bought 1 other item and it downloaded and opened fine???
October 30, 2012
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
Thanks for contacting me before leaving negative feedback! Do you have the program the file was created in? (This is located under the pictures of the product in the area marked "File Details".) Most of my products are in Adobe, so you'll need Adobe Reader or another Adobe product. If none of this works or doesn't make any sense, e-mail me at hojostptstore@yahoo.com and we'll get it figured out! :)

Beck Mowat  (TpT Seller) re: K-6 Halloween Magic Square FREEBIE
Hi Hojo:
I really like your lesson plans!
I am wondering what software you are using.
Is it Print Shop? I teach grades 1-6 (substituting now that I am retired). I am also taking a EAL course to teach overseas. I would love to know what software I can use that has the same cute graphics as you use to create your lesson plans. Thanks alot HoJo
October 30, 2012
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
I currently use either PowerPoint or Word to make the Magic Squares. I've also created some products in Excel in the past, but I don't do that as often anymore. Many of the graphics I buy right here on TpT! We have some fabulous artists with a lot of talent. :) Just do a search for clipart (or whatever specific artwork you are looking for) and you should find what you want. If not - head to the forums. There is an entire board dedicated to clipart/copyright and you can request items be made there. Best of luck to you here on TpT!

Buyer re: Alphabet Letter Sort FREEBIE
Just noticed you are from South Dakota...that is where I am located, too. Do you know anyone that uses Reading Mastery for their reading program? Would like some insight into incorporating it into the Common Core Standards.
September 30, 2012
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
I have not even heard of Reading Mastery. Sorry, but I'm afraid I'm not going to be any help. However, if you head to my blog I have free downloads for K-6 Common Core Reading Literature standards. They *might* give you ideas... Feel free to e-mail me! hojostptstore@yahoo.com

I need this in DeNealian !
September 29, 2012
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
Beermom, I actually used this while teaching Kindergarten at a school that uses D'Nealian. The whole point is that students notice a WIDE VARIETY of handwriting styles. Their are D'Nealian k's and other letters that my students recognized, but there are all different fonts as well. Please check out the freebie here - http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Alphabet-Letter-Sort-FREEBIE Then if you like the product, please purchase it. Thank you!
September 30, 2012

Hi! I love your Common Core Reading Literature 3rd Grade activity links! Do you have similar items for any of the other standards?
July 30, 2012
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
So far I've done Reading Literature for grades K-6. I've also done 6th grade math. I hope to add more on my blog as time allows, but with school starting it will be slow to occur... I'm glad you enjoyed the list!

On the multiplication magic squares...what do the letters stand for? (sorry if that is a stupid question...) I couldn't figure it out. Thanks, Ann Marie
May 6, 2012
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
The letters are simply there to help you correct it. If the letters are in order, the student completed it correctly! I need to make this clearer in the directions on page 2. Thanks for helping me clarify that!

Dana G. re: Figurative Language Quiz #1
You have listed "I am dying to meet him." as a metaphor. Wouldn't that be hyperbole? I just want to see if I am missing something I need to know.

Thank you!
April 13, 2012
HoJo  (TpT Seller)
You are right! When I created this unit, we did not cover hyperbole - so I wrongfully included that as a metaphor. I just updated the product and replaced that with "All the world is a stage." I think that better covers metaphor. Thank you for catching my error! Please download the new version at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Figurative-Language-Quiz-1

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have PreK-6th grade experience. I have taught Kindergarten, Reading Recovery, Title I math and reading, 5th grade inclusion special education, and a multi-grade classroom of ELL students. I was also the overseer of my first school's special education department. My current position is 4th/5th/6th grade Reading/ELA and District ELA Professional Development Director. I used to teach Asian students during the evenings, weekends, and summer. Using Skype and other online tools, I have taught students from age 6-20. It was an interesting experience! http://www.eleutian.com/qualify/registers/welcome I recently started as a professor for CE4Teachers. Come check us out! http://courses.ce4teachers.com/

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style varies depending on the students in front of me. I try to use a lot of visuals, differentiated instruction, and centers whenever possible. My colleagues often joke that I have a work hard, play hard attitude. I'm the type who expects a lot of hard work from my students, but I will be the first to recognize that hard work and find a fun way to incorporate play into our day.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

The South Dakota Department of Education chose me to attend a national standard setting committee in New Jersey in February 2011. A panel of roughly 20 experts helped determine the new cut off scores for the next PLT Praxis exam. It was an honor to be chosen!
