I finally had a reason to break out the money stamps. I think the squares could have been a bit bigger though. A lot of my kids had a hard time fitting the amount they needed in the box.

I have used these with the 6th graders I currently teach. The higher level students do very well on them, but they are a challenge for my lower level students. Here are some of the multiple meaning words included: might, ruler, eye, period, time, seal, crash, point, tire, and shape. We typically do 10-20 of them at a time, and about half of my class will get 100% each time.

Another question. How do you make all the magic squares? Copy/paste the images or you insert them automatically - eg. with Excel or similar program? I like your work but we have to give our children magic squares in slovenian language so we have to make our own magic square. We don't have problems with words m. squares, but with those with images we do - it takes a long time to put them right, to check if the squares are right ... Any advice will be appreciated.

I have used Excel and Word in the past. Currently I am using PowerPoint to create my documents. It does take a long time to get everything lined up correctly. So unfortunately there is not an "easy" or "quick" way to do this. Good luck to you here on TpT!

I currently use either PowerPoint or Word to make the Magic Squares. I've also created some products in Excel in the past, but I don't do that as often anymore. Many of the graphics I buy right here on TpT! We have some fabulous artists with a lot of talent. :) Just do a search for clipart (or whatever specific artwork you are looking for) and you should find what you want. If not - head to the forums. There is an entire board dedicated to clipart/copyright and you can request items be made there. Best of luck to you here on TpT!

Beermom, I actually used this while teaching Kindergarten at a school that uses D'Nealian. The whole point is that students notice a WIDE VARIETY of handwriting styles. Their are D'Nealian k's and other letters that my students recognized, but there are all different fonts as well. You are right! When I created this unit, we did not cover hyperbole - so I wrongfully included that as a metaphor. I just updated the product and replaced that with "All the world is a stage." TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have PreK-6th grade experience. I started my teaching adventure by accident. My major was business and electronic commerce, but I started working part-time at a preschool during college. That job made me realize what I was truly meant to do! This fall I will begin teaching 6th grade. However, in the past I have taught Kindergarten, Reading Recovery, Title I math and reading, 5th grade inclusion special education, and a multi-grade classroom of ELL students. I was also the overseer of my first school's special education department. I also teach Asian students during the evenings, weekends, and summer. MY TEACHING STYLE
My teaching style varies depending on the students in front of me. I try to use a lot of visuals, differentiated instruction, and centers whenever possible. My colleagues often joke that I have a work hard, play hard attitude. I'm the type who expects a lot of hard work from my students, but I will be the first to recognize that hard work and find a fun way to incorporate play into our day.
HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT
The South Dakota Department of Education chose me to attend a national standard setting committee in New Jersey in February 2011. A panel of roughly 20 experts helped determine the new cut off scores for the next PLT Praxis exam. It was an honor to be chosen!
MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY
I graduated from undergraduate school in May 2007. After graduation I received a teacher certificate in Elementary and K-8 Special Education. I have a minor in Reading and Kindergarten education. I also have endorsements to teach Middle School Math, Reading/Language Arts, and Science. I can coach any sport in elementary and middle school and have a varsity basketball endorsement. Finally, I have a K-12 technology endorsement. In May 2009 I graduated with a K-12 Educational Administration degree. I am a trained Reading Recovery teacher. During the summer of 2010, I took certification coursework to become a Reading Specialist in the state of South Dakota. I plan to start my doctorate in Reading soon!
