The great thing about this is that you can use one or all of the stories. The only thing is the cover really doesn't exactly fit the book, but that is a minor detail. Lots of options.

Hello! First, let me say thank you so much for the Harcourt materials for 2nd grade! I have bought quite a few and they are a great addition to the stories. One question I did have though was for the Vocabulary Study pages that come with many of the stories, what are students supposed to write in the "Word Connection" section?

I love Steven Kellogg's tall tales like Davy Crockett, Paul Bunyan, Mike Fink, Pecos Bill, and Thuder Rose. We use the Reading Street basal and one of the stories was a myth but I didn't have anything to supplement the story with so I am looking for material to put with it. I couldn't find much so I thought of you. Thanks for pondering the idea!

I downloaded your "Seasons and Such" packet. I had a question about something in the "What Is The Reason For The Season" mini-book. On the next to the last block, there is a place to draw and color the sun to show the change of seasons for the Northern Hemisphere. Where I am supposed to have the students draw the Sun, because all of the Earth views are tilted in the same direction. Thank you!

The sun is drawn in the center. When the northern hemisphere is pointing away from the sun, it is having winter. As is moves in a western path, it gradually receives more direct rays and has spring. Then as it is directly pointing towards the sun, the northern hemisphere experiences summer. As it continues its orbit, the north begins to point away from the sun and experiences fall. Good point- the paragraphs were taken out of the two articles as to leave the font large and all on one page- Holly and I discussed this morning your point about the paragraphs and we will put the paragraphs back in, but the font size will be smaller or continue to a second page. We will merge it to the end so you will have an option as to which you want to use. We have to make the most of our copying at our school as our number of copies are counted and limited.The captilazation is just a font choice- again it was very bold, but took up little space on the top of the page. Thanks for your suggestions. We do appreciate them.

Long time, no buy! Remember me? Ladies, I really don't have a question, but I have a few comments for you. I purchased most all of your Harcourt activities. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. I even enjoyed coloring & making the activities ahead of time. I have bought many other activities here on TPT, but none of them hold a candle to your creativity & dedication. I would tell anyone who has any doubts as to wanting to purchase one of your products to go ahead & do it. As our school division bought a new series this year, I miss having you help me. I can purchase worksheets, but really nothing "fun" to do to use & teach skills & I'm just too old to work on my own. I'm thinking of retiring in the next year or so, so I'm cutting down on my purchases. Teaching has become so politcal & unappreciated. Please know that I do appreciate & miss you. Ahhhh! You are a dear friend to us! When we started this last year we always looked forward to your feedback. We felt that if we have a good comment from you, we were on the right track! After so many years, it is hard sometimes to keep up the stamina, but this outlet has allowed both Holly and myself to stay motivated. We love getting comments and pictures from all over and hearing how others like our work. We both have about 6 years to go until retirement looms for us. Then it occurred to me that maybe you might like to add, or use, these activities to supplement your units. For example, I just recently created another web quest to supplement the one you made for "Dear Mr. Blueberry." I've also created some choice boards that go along with the units as well. Would you be willing to set me up as a seller under you? Is that even possible...for some reason I feel like I read somewhere that a teacher could sign-up under another seller and you would get a portion of my sales? Is that true?
Let me know your thoughts. Of course, I wouldn't sell these things on my own because they are created based on some of your materials, but I thought they were good enough to share with other teachers out there teaching the same units.

we sure will... we just copy the blank tree and let kids cut out pictures for inside and let them write about each animal that uses the tree.... I will scan our finished copy and send it to you= we are out until Tuesday so it will be that evening as my projects are at school. We cut between each section to make a flip book... we copy the predrawn tree and the animals.

Yes- it is posted... Look towards the bottom, maybe page 2. The items are listed in order of number of sales, so those bundles are near the end, but each book has a bundle. Glad you like our work- We enjoy teaching it and sharing w/ others. Don't forget to download the common core companion offering for free. We listed the common core standards, essential questions, learning targets, DOK and Bloom's tax and which of our activities can be used with the standard.

Common Core standards for activities and projects in Just for You are now posted. We are working on Banner Days this week and will be posting it asap! WE just finished a worshop with our district and deconstructed the standards so it gave us a perfect opportunity to look at each unit with the standards. We have worked in all of the stories to our curriculum map for the year as we have limited funds to purchase anything new. Ladies, my worst fears have arrived! As of yesterday, we are adopting a new series. Although it is Harcourt/Pearson, the stories are not the same. I'm heartbroken. I'm out of school in two days. Thanks for all your help & activities.

I noticed that the narrative elements page had several typos...."Rosabla and Abuela imagine the(y) are flying around the city." and "Rosable(a) imagines that Abuela's skirt is a sail."
I found this activity a little confusing...wondering whether some of them belonged in plot or setting due to the type of storyline with the characters traveling.

I paid $5.00 for these printables,but I didn't get everything shown. I didn't get the trifold mentioned, the postcard persuasion graphic organizer, story clues foldable, compare and contrast foldable or summarizing wheel. I got the Title page, table of contents and descriptions, ahoy mates pictures,but none of the activities shown there. I got the fact wheel. Are the others somewhere else?

I just downloaded Pumpkin Fiesta and noticed that page 36 was blank. It is the page right before the "San Miguel Times" activity so I was wondering if you had any graphic organizer or directions for using that page that might have gotten left out.

Page 35 has the graphic organizer for the San Miguel Times- Sometimes when we insert a table and try to make it as large as possible for wiriting, it kicks to a second page, and we are unable to remove it without making the table on a single page, so we leave the blank page in there- if that makes sense! The writign directions are at the top of the organizer- pretending you are a reporter at the festival and answering the 5 w's and H.

Thank you. I'll be watching for them. This is my 35th year of teaching. All 1st or 2nd. Our county has been using this series for 5 yrs. and they are planning to continue with it another few. After a while a person can come up with only so many ideas. It's GREAT for me that I've found you. Even though I've been around for some time I love finding new ways to teach a skill. I've got 3 more years to go . Thank you again for helping to make them interesting.

We are working on Good bye Curtis this week- All of the stories in Just for You, and the first five of Banner Days are posted. We have used this series for several years and we have everything made, but we like to add more for posting and polish it up a bit for a quality posting. We will be completing Neighborhood news within the next few weeks- then on to the last five. We are glad that you like them!

Hollis received a BA from the University of South Carolina and Gretchen received a BS from The University of Akron.
