I've been teaching since 2004.
I have two children, the older one is in middle school and the younger one is in elementary school. My goal is to use technology and produce printed worksheets that my kids can use with pen and paper. My kids use every worksheet (not always voluntarily) on a regular basis and we can see positive effects on their school work. I hope the worksheets will be useful for you, too.
FREE worksheets are available at my website: hughesbennett.co.uk
Writing with paper and pen is important for learning and problem solving.
Many students stare at the computer screen and mistaken that for thinking or problem solving. Then, there are students who furiously click on link after link in the web browser and mistaken that for learning or research. Computer based multiple choice tests may be useful to measure ability or skill, but, they are less useful for learning something new.
Technology must be supplemented with active learning. Printed worksheets are simple and effective tools for active learning.
Since 2006, I've been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK).
I received a BSc engineering degree from Harvard University. At the beginning of my career in financial services, I received a certificate from the New York Institute of Finance. When I started teaching, I received a postgraduate teaching certificate.
