For a magical decade, I served as teacher and counselor to a colorful pop choir known as "Lessia's Crew." As kids shared their challenges with me daily, I soon realized I could greatly empower students by penning useful life insights into songs that were addictively fun to sing. As our informal chorus evolved into a "Santa Barbara Phenom" (Montecito Journal,) my students began professionally recording my wisdom material. I'm now up in Sonoma, lucky enough to have a new batch of lively kids knocking at my door. Offering up life insights and take-no-prisoners common sense still gets me giant hugs. I often hear: "Your song saved my life!" I love my work :-)
Arming students with “spot on” understanding greatly improves their chances of becoming happy and productive classroom citizens. Powerful lyrics linger on and become new thinking. I am in LOVE with words and share this happy addiction with my students. Every BP lyric line serves as a writing prompt. Although I am highly trained music producer and teacher, my main focus is helping kids find harmony in life through a better understanding of human nature and the power of positive thought.
A while back, we received a fan letter from Susan Sarandon. She said she loved our music, then offered up her youngest son to be our bass player. How cute is that? We get the most extraordinary mail! A Sonoma student chose my songs as the "Hero" for a classroom project. She explained that BP lyrics changed her view of life-- and what she wanted to hers. I was humbled. A little while ago, I received a touching video from an autistic boy thanking me for my Nonconformist song. Soon after, his mom sent me a second video that featured him playing another BP song on the piano- he'd figured it all out by rote! I was honored to have Dru Frick, a lovely Santa Barbara teacher, offer to write simple lesson plans for my songs when I first joined TpT. Now I'm excited to be working with Retta from Rainbow City Learning. Retta wrote me so many wonderful emails about how her own students were inspired by my material, I finally asked if she'd like to co-create. We're hard at work created ELA units these days as "Bullyproof Rainbow!"
Lessia: USC's program for gifted students, San Francisco Conservatory, Music Academy of the West, Curtis Institute of Music, Dick Grove (contemp music) Dru Frick: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and experienced in inquiry based learning, as well as International Baccalaureate trained.
The lovely voices on BP recordings include: Jessie Bridges- daughter of actor, Jeff. Viva- daughter of Martin of the English band, "Depeche Mode," and Rachel Sand, an actor who shares a manager with Hilary Duff. I'm proud mom to two adventurous, happy sons. My better half is a speaker engineer named Teddy. He's Canadian.
