Good morning. I purchased the My Spelling Journal on July 6th. Last night I sent an order in to Office Max online to have it printed and spiral bound to make a book to use with my nephew. I received an email today that there is a copyright on the file and I need permission from you before they can proceed with the print:

Hello Antonette,
Your Print Online file has a copyright on it. We would need written permission from “J. Ross/The Teachers Cauldron” stating it’s okay for us to duplicate it.

I assumed that I could have the file printed through a service not just at home. Is it possible for you to send me an okay to have it printed?

Thank you for your time.

Christine Y. re: Hands On Dictionary and Phonics Notebook
I bought this last year and used just the "My Dictionary" part with my class. Because I was a bit overwhelmed with the "My Phonics" part, I never got to it. I'm using this summer to put together my own Notebook so I can hit the ground running this August, using all sections. In doing so I happened to notice that the information on the "Categories" page 19 seems to be the same information on the "Phonics" page 24.

I also wanted to ask a logistics question: When your students are putting together the Categories section, do you make everyone glue the headers in the same exact order (numbers, then colors, then school, etc.)? Or do they cut and just glue the headers in any order? Thanks!

Hi Jen, I'm looking at the August Literacy Centers for first grade - Build a Sentence. I was wondering if you could change the sentence cards so that they are already full sentences for the students to sort and copy? Right now they are a little abstract and require the students to add additional words, capitalize on their own, etc. So they might create a sentence that says, "group of students work at the table." Could you change the cards to "A group of students" "work" "at the table" and "A girl" instead of "girl" etc? I think that this may be a little tricky for my students to do independently at the beginning of the school year without a little tweak so that it's more like your Build a Sentence in September? I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense. :) laura.scheunemann@wrps.net

There is no scope and sequence. You can use whichever skills/sounds you want to use; whatever matches up to your spelling continuum! I have added in almost EVERY spelling rule in the pack, and you just pick out what you need to use whenever you need to use it. :)

Hi, Just purchased your Numbers Everyday pack and just want to make sure I'm understanding how to maximize it. I skimmed the blog...you purchase 3 pronged folders and insert page protectors...5 protectors? The sheets that you insert...are they copied on cardstock and laminated for durability? Do you replace the sheets every few weeks...once a quarter...and just replace with different sheets...? I have seen some posts who mention using them at a station? Do you recommend that or should the whole class be using them at the same time? Or should you have enough for the whole class but they use them during math block/rotations? Thanks!
Cheryl

Jen Ross - Teacher by the Beach
Hi Cheryl,

Yes, I use 3 prong folders, with page protectors...I used 5, but that's not the "must do" amount. I copied off the pages on regular copy paper, not laminated; just put them in the page protectors. I trade out the sheets for different skills whenever I feel like they have mastered those skills...or to get them ready for the new skill that I'll be teaching soon. For instance, when I am getting ready to teach 3 digit numbers, the week before, I'll switch out the pages and expose them to it and kind of do an informal assessment of what they already know to see what I need to really start teaching. I've never tried it in a center...but I have taken a few students back to my small group table after seeing that they were really struggling on that day's page. I usually just do them as a transition into math, but whatever works for your class! :)

Also, I individualize spelling and my students get 16 words a week...is there a way to add extra A, B, C, etc. pages that only have lines so that my kids could document all of their words?? If I am willing to pay a little more could you do this with the same font in the pack or do you suggest that I just make my own to add to the pack? Thanks! I envy how organized you are...I stepped down from teaching 2nd grade to teach first...and now I'm looping with my firsties to 2nd grade...so excited!

It really just depends on where you get the journals printed. I sent mine to our district's print shop (it's cheaper) and for 25 books of the vocabulary journals, it was about $30.

I would say that it follows RF.2.3.e for 2nd grade, but I'm not sure about the other grades.

What format are your grade books in? Are they excel, word, a PDF, etc?

Thanks

Hi! I have written to you about adding September to December Literacy & Math Centers Menu Bundled packs but I have another question. Would you consider developing/creating these sets for grade 1? Imagine how that would open up a whole new fan base and more sales???? I really want you to develop the first grade sets!! :)

Hi Cheryl!
I love that you like them so much! I really can't promise that I'll be able to do a 1st grade set. :( They take so much time to plan and make. You aren't the first person to ask, so maybe! But it really just depends on time.

I LOVE your monthly ELA/Math CCSS Center bundles and have purchased all of them. My question is if you would ever think about making a third grade set? I teach 2nd and 3rd and, while these have provided great practice for my Thirdies, there are some skills that the second grade standards don't cover. If you don't plan on making any for third grade, do you know a seller who does?

Hi. I'm looking at your new suffix packet bots just what I need, but I wonder of you could add a preview so I can make sure it's not too easy for my kiddos. Thank you. Love your creative and relevant items.
