The other part bounces around means - the checklist itself moves if I don't click and drag perfectly. I just tried Arial- still a pain to work with. Some pages just don't line up perfectly with cut and paste. The font size is 16 on the original page but 18 on later pages - that needs tweaked by hand. Have you gone thru and tried to cut/paste on every page? Sorry to be so negative but I also had my techy daughter play with it and she found it to be a cumbersome process and was frustrated. I really just need a tool I can work with without a fancy font and cutsey clip art. With 2 kdg classes I just don't have the time to try to enter names all thru this twice.

Did you try adjusting the line spacing? Can you explain what you mean by "other part bounces around?" I just tried changing the font to Arial and it lined up without me changing anything else. Maybe try that?

If you don't have the same exact version and all the same fonts, things will be moved around and misaligned. The font I used lined up so I am guessing if yours isn't lining up that you must not have that font.
1. You can change the font to anything you like and then adjust the font size and line spacing (on the tool bar under paragraph. The button that has an arrow pointing up and one pointing down. If you hover over the icons the name will come up.)

Hi Joni,
I'm so glad you like it! I send home the whole page but have explained to my parents that they should work to master the first list before moving on to the next. We also include a few sight words on every spelling test since these are often hard to spell.

For a fellow Illini alum, of course I will edit it for you! Do you like the wording with cocoa or hot chocolate better? The original is in an old version of Word and it is NOT playing nicely with the new versions. I think I am going to have to start over but truthfully it could use a facelift anyway. Bizarre, that should not happen with a PDF! Try opening it with preview instead of Adobe Reader. I was also told that when the person tried a different printer it worked. If neither of those work send me your email and I can try sending it in a different format. So sorry, it printed fine for me.

I know there is nothing wrong with the file so your computer and printer must not be playing nicely. Turning off the printer for a few minutes and then trying again sometimes helps reset things.

I absolutely LOVE this program..it has been a wonderful motivator for my students. Believe it or not, I teach Kindergarten, and I have a couple of students right now that are on the verge of finishing the first 600 words! I would LOVE to continue this with them...they are highly motivated to do so. Any chance you have anything? Thanks so much for your time and for sharing this great resource!

I just purchased your decoding strategies pack... I've seen it all over Pinterest and am excited to use it with my first graders. I am having trouble getting the pack to print. Our school printers say that it is too graphic intense. I've never had this happen before, but am anxious to begin using the posters. Would it be possible for you to email me the individual pdfs instead of having them all in a packet? Even trying to print them page by page is unsuccessful. Hi Jenn, I don't have a question for you but wanted to tell you how much I like your Me on the Map Project. I noticed that the children drew a picture of Hacienda Elem. School. Is that the school by Calero Dam? I taught 1st grade at Hacienda before it became a science school. I believe that it closed or became the science school in l980 when I moved to Colorado. I am using your packet this year with my first graders but this will be my last year. I taught 10 years in SJ Unified at Hacienda, moved to Colo., moved to Dublin, Ca. taught preschool for 6 years and have now been teaching 1st grade for 17 years in NY. Thanks for making this packet. I know there is nothing wrong with the pdf so it must be a printer/computer issue. What if you try opening the pdf with preview? Do that by selecting the pdf then going up to file open with preview.

Adobe Reader should open when you double click on the pdf. Maybe check your updates? You can still print from preview though.

Hello,
I love the decoding stragegies packet. I wanted to print several in color and get them laminated to have several students put a copy in their book boxes when they are reading silently. Do I have to buy additional licenses to print a color copy? I was trying to print more than one color copy and it is not printing correctly.

Hi Sherry,
No, you don't have to buy additional licenses unless you want to share them with other teachers. You should be able to print as many copies as you want. Try opening it with preview instead of Adobe Reader and see if that helps. You may need to update your Adobe Reader.

Hello! Just purchased your decoding strategies packet. I wished I had this last year (or found it last year!) for my first graders. I just couldn't find anything I liked. Now I teach the same class in 2nd, and would love large one-page strategies, one strategy devoted to one page. This would be easy to put up in my guided reading area. Would you be willing to help out with that? I would love that as then the graphics would remain the same as the ones you have provided on "all strategies" paper.

I am so sorry to hear that. I know it isn't the file so it must be a printer communication error. Have you tried restarting your computer? That usually works for me when nothing else will.
