Hi Jen,

THANKS so much for converting the other staple set for me. Can you do this one too please? Also can you have a think about any particularly American words that you use that could be swapped for a more Australian word? I'm thinking perhaps of quarter which many Americans use when talking about q words. Thanks so much!

Hi Sandra-
Thanks for your inquiry!
Unless my principal moves me to grade 2 & I need to make them, I don't have plans of doing so. I do have non-fiction reader sets (bunnies, oviparous animals, farms & sea/ocean animals) that could be used with some 2nd graders. You can check out the clown fish freebie in my TpT store to see the style, or each of the above mentioned packs has a preview to download that includes 1 page of each if the books.
So sorry I couldn't help you out at this time with the sight word readers.
Have a great evening!

Hello Jennifer,

I was browsing your store and found your "seasonal pack"...packed with stack books for all four seasons...I wanted to know if you had other stacks "bundled" like you did with the seasonal pack...if so, is this something that you could put together so that is available for purchase? I just loved the free version and wanted more!

I bundled the season ones because they 'went together.' The others are all different themes/subjects, so I didn't bundle them. Which would you be interested in me bundling? When would you want it by?
Thanks for stopping by!

I like your idea very much. I'm wondering if you have ever considered making the books 1/4 page size. I have some other books that size and they work very well. The small size is appealing to children and saves paper!
April 14, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Jennifer Drake  (TpT Seller)
HI!
Thanks so much for your inquiry. Many of the books in my TpT store are 1/4 page- all my foldable readers. But these books, I have found, need to be larger because the children need ample room to write in the sight word. When I tried to get them on 1/4 page it only left 2-3 spaces for the kids to write in the words. I think books that have all the words already printed for the children work great on 1/4 page, but when they need to write, it needs to be a bit bigger for them to be successful.
Hope that helps answer your inquiry!

Hi Cathy-
Please email me at jennrussell1@msn.com with the details of exactly which sets you would like together. I am not sure if you want a set with all the winter cvc, syllable and short vowel together and another with the spring or winter and spring mixed. It would be easier to know what you are looking for. Would the CVC coloring ones be included or just the CVC worksheets? If you go to my store and look in the 'custom categories' section you can click on 'winter' and/or 'spring' and it will list all the products for each section. The St Patty's set was the first time I bundled a whole holiday's materials together and it did not seem to be much of a hit. People preferred items individually. Once I get your email and see what you are looking for I can let you know!

HI Alix!
Can you explain what a NSW Foundation Font looks like? Is it like the D'Nealian font that is sometimes used in the US (almost script- letters have 'tails' and look as if they connect to each other)? If you message me your email I can send you a PDF file with the font style I think you are looking for, and if that is the case, I can work on converting the set to the font you want and post that for all the Australia teachers! My email is jennrussell1@msn.com

meatballs re: Sight Word Readers Sample Pack
Hi Jennifer,
It was a nice surprise to find your sight word readers! I teach a preK class and I am looking for some sight word readers that begin with the most basic and easiest of sight words. I have had no luck yet although I love the book A! because it will introduce my little ones to a very simple word with rebus pictures and spelling. It will also allow me to introduce the concept of reading from left to right and familiarize them with punctuation and the operations of reading itself. I have a request. Would it be possible to make some simple sight word readers similar to A! using the words is, in, the, and, go, he, I, it, not, on, she, we, will, you, and to.

I would also be interested in some pocket chart word cards (as listed above) and some rebus pictures for the pocket chart as well. Some of the rebus pictures I would like would include some people places and things such as a boy, girl, cat, dog, horse, bear, elephant, monkey, car, pool, bicycle, letter, barn, helicopter, mailbox, school, house, car, zoo, wagon. These pocket chart words and rebus pictures would allow me to build some sentences for circle time reading. Right now I start with a simple sentence such as "(child's name) is (happy face rebus)". I would like to work up to - "A horse is in the barn" or "A bear is in a helicopter!". I am so hoping that you could help me out!

Thanks,

Hi Debbie! I am SO glad you found what you were looking for! I was always on a search- and hence how these came to be!
I would be more than willing to help you out. Some of the words you mentioned, I do have books already made for. Here are the words in each of my packs...
Pack 1- a, I, see, like, my
Pack 2- the, to, and, in, have
Pack 3- me, go, we, play, said
Pack 4- come, you, is, here, look
Pack 5- for, he, she, has, was
Pack 6- are, this, what, they, will
You can purchase each pack individually, or I have them all bundled into a mega pack- when buying that you save $4 which is like getting one of the packs for free. I also have sight word practice worksheets that coordinate with them- again- available in the packs listed above or in a bundled pack. I think the only 2 on your list that I don't have are on and not.
I can definitely do the pocket chart pack and know EXACTLY what you are looking for bc I do the same format with my kindergarteners! I also play a fun game with them with it- which I can detail in the pack- which really 'forces' them to focus on the words! My packs build on each other- so the words learned are seen again in future readers/packs and for any unfamiliar/undecodable words, I provide a picture with the word. When would you need these by? How many are you looking for? Why don't you email me at jennrussell1@msn.com with specifics! If you want to take a look at the packs, click on each link on the sight word readers sample pack (underlined words) and it will bring you right there! If you don't hear from me within a day or so, send me another message on here bc that then means your email went to my junk folder- it has happened before and I felt terrible for not getting back to that person in a timely fashion!
Thanks again for contacting me! I am SO glad others can use these readers!

Hi Jennifer,
I like your sight word reader packs. I teach ELL students and am always looking for sight words being used in context along with pictures! One question I have is that I notice there is a blank line in the middle of each sentence, what is that for? How do you instruct your students when reading these. I'm wondering if students stop reading when they get to the blank line looking to "fill in the blank". Would live your insight before I purchase the mega pack. Many thanks!
Janet
February 24, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Jennifer Drake  (TpT Seller)
Hi Janet- THANKS so much for your inquiry! The blank line is for the kids to write the word in. I then have them go back and circle or highlight the word, and then read the book. It helps bc they are practicing writing, finding and reading the word! I have ELL students in my class and they have benefited from these readers- they get very excited that they are 'reading'! I then have them keep the books in school for a few weeks in their browsing boxes and then send them home. I had 2 stamps made by a local business- 'I Can Read My Book' and 'I Can Read My Book With Help' that I stamp on the books so that parents know when they go home. I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. If you'd like, download and use the sample pack with your students this week and see how it works for them!
Thanks again!

Thank you for your inquiry. I had someone else ask a similar question- here was my response:
Thank you. Technically you are correct, but when I teach 'winter animals' to my students I include the penguin and we talk about which animals live on the North and South Poles. If you look on TpT many other sellers, who cater to the PreK-1 grade levels, do the same. We are limited in the number of characters we can use in a title, so 'arctic' is used rather than trying to squeeze in both arctic and Antarctica. This product works for my classroom and the way that I teach my students in regards to 'winter animals' and wanted to share with others who may do the same.

I have since changed the name to 'Polar Animals' to avoid confusion in the future.
Thank you.

HI!
I have already found two mistakes on your pack, the page with the pig heart first, should say find the middle sound, and the page that says fill in the missing beg, middle, or ending, sound, there's no missing letter in valentine. Thanks!

I am so sorry- thank you for letting me know. I will fix it this evening & upload the corrected version. You will be able to download the corrected version by going to 'my purchases' and you will see it flash that there is an updated version. Unfortunately I do not have access to it right now to fix for you, but will do it within a timely manner when I get home. My sincere apologies.

UPDATE: The errors have been fixed and an updated version has been uploaded. Again- so sorry for the oversights and my sincere apologies! Thanks again for pointing them out to me.

I purchased your George Washington foldable reader. you said no cutting needed. I can't figure that one out. Don't you have to cut the pages in half? Also, does it need to be duplexed? Some instructions for assembly would be helpful for those of us who have not made many books. Thanks.

Hi!
I am so sorry you were having trouble with it. I guess b/c I make and use these all the time it is second nature to me. Please forgive me! I have included an assembly page in the pack now- you can go back into 'My Purchases' and you will see that it is flashing that there is an updated version. I copied/pasted the 'how to assemble' page from my Valentine Foldable reader pack, and although the pictures are of the valentine book, the assembly is just the same. The pictures are step-by-step and give you the option of copying on just one said or back-to-back. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me through here, or by email jennrussell1@msn.com I'd love to hear how it worked out for you! Thanks for contacting me!

I am trying to understand what you have for sight words. Can you please explain? I have kinders that haven't been to pre school, so the easier the better, if that makes sense. :)
I think you have readers as well as worksheets, but I thought I saw something else and can't find it.

Thanks so much for your inquiry!
I have a lot of sight word products up! If you need REAL simple, I would suggest you start with the Sight Word Practice sets- they start at Pack 1 and go to Pack 6- pack 1 is going to have your easiest sight words (a, I, like, see, my). Pack 2 will build on Pack 1 and so on. The sight word reader packs co-inside with the sight word practice packs. The sight words in the practice pack for pack 1 will be made into books in the reader pack 1. Pack 1 is going to be mainly pictures to support their reading and using the new sight word. As the packs get harder, there are less pictures and more words and decodable CVC words are added, as well.
I have sight word games and center activities too- some are 'holiday'/'season' based.
A lot of my foldable reader packs contain sight words too.
This might help you find what you need/narrow down your search.
Go to my 'store' and right above the banner that promotes my 'Catch A Cupid' product you will see a search box with 'quick find' next to it. Type in 'sight words'- you will get about 4 pages of products to go through. This narrows down the products I have to only those that have 'sight word' anywhere in the product description. There is a pack of high frequency practice sheets- read it, see it, build it... that may be good for them. I would say start with the sight word practice packs and readers. There are also some sight word activity packs that detail which words are featured and they have some center activities included to do with those words. The sight word games I have up are going to include all 100 of the Dolch words, so you would be able to use some of the words, but not all would be appropriate for them at this time. Popcorn words is fun too- that's only $1 and you use an overhead/eno board to practice making the words 'pop' off the screen! If you have something specific in mind that you would like created, let me know and I can work on it too! I hope this helps! Let me know if you need further assistance!

I am not sure why you are having an issue with it. I just downloaded it fine with no issue. What type of computer are you trying to download it on? If it continues to be a problem, you can contact TpT through the 'Contact Us' button and they can assist you with any download problems. I really have no way of fixing that for you. Maybe try restarting your computer? Are you using an old version of Adobe? TpT would best be able to assist you. I am so sorry I can't be of more help! I hope you are able to get it to use because it is a lot of fun....and educational! Let me know how it goes! Thanks!

I may have a totally different group--I feel mine might not connect but i have ELL learners and I think the process may be too confusing to them---but your idea sounds swell and i am glad it works for you and others. I do appreciate your feedback and the excitement you share for it! I am so glad!

Thank you- just a thought- but maybe doing it whole group with your students- project it on a screen (overhead, Eno, SmartBoard, Elmo, etc) and do it together with them. I have a sample up for free (groundhog theme) you could use to try it out...just a suggestion! My ELL students needed some guidance at first, but now can do independently! Thanks again for stopping by! Best Wishes!

I am unclear as to how this gets them to practice their CVC knowledge ---they can color the worksheets even though they can't read. I think the concept is clever but I am not sure they would be reading the CVC words necessarily while coloring.

Thank you for contacting me. I am actually a bit confused by your inquiry, but will explain how the product works and maybe that will answer your question. The students cannot just 'color' the worksheet because they have to follow the key on the bottom. In order to follow the key, they must first read the CVC word. For ex. one of the worksheets has a boy wearing a hat. In his hat is the word 'cab.' They must first decode/read 'cab' and then use the key in the bottom to find the picture of a cab, which will then tell them they need to use blue. If they don't read the CVC word, they can't follow the key, and therefore are not coloring it correctly. I hope this makes it clearer. They do have to read the word, and it is practicing CVC decoding and reading in order for the worksheet to be completed correctly. I did it with my class and you could see each one of them tapping out the words and then using the key. They really liked it and I could witness them practicing decoding. Several colleagues used it as well, and saw much success. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I would love to hear from you after reading the explanation. Thanks!

HI-
Thank you for your inquiry!
At this point I don't have anything for Little Red Hen- I only have my Hanukkah/Christmas versions of the story. When would you need it by? If you are willing/able to wait on it for a few days, I can definitely put some things together. Please send me an email if it is something you would like me to go forward an do (if you want something specific with it, let me know that as well). I do plan on making popular story units in the future, as well! My email is jennrussell1@msn.com
Thanks again- I look forward to hearing from you!
Have a great day!

Hi- thanks for your inquiry!
Each sight word reader pack description states the 5 words it covers in the product description, but here is the list to make it easier for you!
Pack 1- a, I, see, like, my
Pack 2- the, to, and, in, have
Pack 3- me, go, we, play, said
Pack 4- come, you, is, here, look
Pack 5- for, he, she, has, was
Pack 6- are, this, what, they, will

The packs are cumulative- so words covered in previous packs are revisited in the next pack.
They also coordinate with the sight word practice sheet sets (packs 1-6).
In my classroom, I intro the word and use the practice sheet and then the following day I use the sight word reader. I also have a sight word center each week, as well as a writing center that uses that word in a 'mix & fix' way (the activities I use in centers are also in my TpT store- I can give you exact links if you are interested).
I hope this helps answer your question! If you are looking for samples of the books, I have 3 in my sample freebie pack!
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any further questions! You can do it here, or my email is jennrussell1@msn.com
Thank you & have a nice night!

I'm not sure if I have the PDF document reader?

Could you tell me how to check for this?

Thanks Connie
Also I can not print from my home so I usually save to a flash drive and print at my local store. Is this something I could do with this download?

The PDF reader is Acrobat. If you check your computer in the 'programs' section you should find it. If not, it is free to download from adobe (acrobat reader). It is a red square with an 'A' in it. I believe saving on a flash drive and bringing to store would be fine! I save my documents I made at home in PDF on my flash drive & print at school. I would think any major chain printer would have the capability to do that. I would suggest maybe calling them to see beforehand. Virtually anything you purchase on TpT is going to require a PDF reader bc we have to upload in PDF format if we don't want our products to be altered at all. I hope this helps answer your questions! If you purchase it and try downloading, but have difficulty, email me at jennrussell1@msn.com. I would suggest I could email you the file if it doesn't work, but if you don't have the same font I used loaded on your computer/ version of Word that I used, the product won't come out clean that way either- another reason for the PDF uploads! Let me know how it goes! Thanks so much for contacting me!
