I like this game but how do I make a spinner on it? Or do I just use a spinner that I already have? I've heard of something with a paper clip....can you explain it to me? Thanks so much

To create a spinner I use a pencil and a paper clip. The children put a paperclip on the center of the spinner and then hold the pencil so the point is in an open curve of the paperclip. Then they can just spin the paperclip (it will spin in a circle around the pencil tip) to see where it lands. I usually laminate the game board before the students play.

I have not heard of the need to use a special zip file opener. If your computer has trouble opening the file, please send me a direct email to JJLiteracypd@gvtc.com and I will email you the actual digital files separately.

resource15 re: All 6 Syllable Types on 1 DVD
So is this something I can print?? I have not been to any of your trainings but am interested in how you approach teaching the 6-syllable types. Also, I teach both resource reading and Title One reading for 3rd - 5th grades, do you feel this would be appropiate?

I do not use it as a printable resource because they are power points that are usually used to begin the rest of the literacy block. The trainings I provide are geared through 5th grade but I have had high school resource teachers say they are useful tools. If you would like, I can try to send you a short movie that describes the kinesthetic process as well as the scope and sequence I suggest for 3-5 grade teachers. You can contact me directly at JJLiteracypd@gvtc.com

Hmm. This product was created on a mac. I wonder what the problem is. Please send me your email address and I will send you both the pdf and doc version of the game. You can email me directly at JJLiteracypd@gvtc.com.

thanks for your help. I will try that. I just figured asking teachers who use it on a daily basis would be useful as well.

Hi! I am a Kindergarten teacher here in Texas. I have a question for you. Does your school use CSCOPE for curriculum? If so, how long? Our district just rolled it out for us to begin using it. I love it, but many of my colleagues are overwhelmed and do not like it at all. Did anyone on your faculty have the same problems? Can you tell me how your school overcame the issues? Of course these questions are assuming you do use it. I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Our district does not use CSCOPE. However, I have friends at Region 13 who write CSCOPE lessons. I would suggest that you get in contact with someone at your local regional service center and ask them about CSCOPE implementation. Some of the service centers offer free video seminars about CSCOPE implementation or may send you training information. Hope this information helps :)

First time user, will this purchase include a power point I can show on my computer?
I saw this method at the State Dyslexic conference. So impressed!

Yes. I include both a powerpoint and keynote format. I also include a short movie of me discussing the process and a few other misc. syllable sorting frames that can be printed all on a DVD.

Hi Jennifer,
If I order the six syllable DVD from you does the “hard good” mean I receive the actual DVD? If so, it is not the same DVD we received when we took the class at Region XIII is it? Thank you!

The hard good does mean it is an actual DVD. This DVD is more comprehensive than the free version I released during some sessions at region 13. It includes lessons for all 6 syllable types. There are enough lessons for an entire year. In addition, I have included a short video discussing the keynote/powerpoints.
