In a lot of spelling/word work program, there are sorts and each sort has a number. Like in Words Their Way, there are different books (depending on level) and the books are divided into sort numbers. I hope this is helpful. :)

If I had a pacing guide for my curriculum, I would have been happy to share it with you. Unfortunately, I don't. :/ I actually do things differently every year so I am afraid that I am not much help. Yes! Definitely adaptable - many of the activities could be used on a third grade level! For the Peeling the Poem activity, I would switch out a few of the poems to be more 3rd grade friendly, but I would be happy to suggest substitutions!

We use the book 240 Words All 5th Graders Need to Know (great book!) for our weekly vocab study. We also have words that are introduced in the content areas. When the students find words that they have learned from these areas, they put those on the Word Nerd templates. You could use this with your vocab program or with content words that you use in other subjects. I can understand your frustration - I don't remember truly learning about meter till high school, which I am sure is about the age range you are finding materials for. In this unit, the students learn the definition of meter (established rhythm of a poem, based on sounds and accents) but really are just introduced to it through reading poetry aloud and class discussion. Verse/stanza and rhythm are defined and looked at in the course of poetry mini-lessons. I would be willing to work on an activity this weekend that would teach this more explicitly and add it to the poetry unit by Monday. Even if you decided not to purchase the unit, I am sure that this addition would help other potential buyers looking for meter activities to align with Common Core.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
This is my 8th year of teaching. Six of these years have been teaching science and language arts. I spent seven years teaching 5th grade (which I loved!) Now, I am the junior high literacy teacher!

I am a very high energy, enthusiastic teacher who tries to incorporate technology and interactive lessons into my plans (and I occasionally dress up like a mad scientist!) I like a lot of hands-on activity and active discussion with my students. I love creating my own materials that are tailored to the standards that I teach.
