I come from an Engineering background. When the housing market crashed and my job was at stake, I decided to make a career change to math education. This will conclude my fourth year in the teaching field. Courses that I have taught include Algebra 1, Geometry, Concepts of Problem Solving, Concepts of Algebra, Integrated Algebra, Accelerated Integrated Algebra, Integrated Algebra with Strategies,Integrated Algebra II, Integrated Algebra II with Strategies and Pre-Calculus.
I like to think that my teaching style is very fluid. I learned very quickly that every class and every student require a different approach. However, my preferential style is one of a more collegial nature in which "lecture" is more of a discussion of the concepts between my class and I and less of me telling them what they need to know. I consider the teaching environment in my class to be very student-centered. I act more as a facilitator of learning than I do a teacher.
