cstec re: Five Regions of the United States: Southwest Region
I just purchased and downloaded the Complete unit of the Southwest Region. The anticipation guide was not part of the download as it was for the West region that I just purchased at the same time. Any advice or assistance would be great.
Thank you

Christine,
I just checked my listings, and the anticipation guides are in the downloads for both the West region and the Southwest region. You should see five files in each complete unit. Try downloading the Southwest unit again, and see if you get the anticipation guide this time. If you don't get it, please email me at jillsruss@gmail.com and I will email you the file.
Thanks!

Hi Jill,
Can you tell me if there is a specific order you teach the regions? I ask because some of the test questions require knowledge of different regions. Is there an introductory packet of the five regions of the US that we should be teaching before the individual regions? Please recommend the best order to teach the regions based on the test questions. Thank you. Cristy

Hi, Cristy!
Since I made these packets to use with my students in Florida, I started with the Southeast region because I thought that would be most familiar to them. Then, I teach the Northeast, the Midwest, the Southwest, and finally the West region. If you go to this page on my website, http://www.mrsruss.com/Teachers/regions.html you will find some powerpoints with pictures illustrating the information in the reading packets and some other activities to go along with each region.

I really like your units on the states regions. I have both sets which divide into 4 or 5 regions. In the 5 region set, there's a study guide for each unit to review with before the quiz at the end. I don't see that in the 4 region set. It's a great take home piece for students to study with. Will you be making study guides available for the 4 region set?

Thanks for making such great products available!

The study guides for the 4 regions materials are now available in my store. They are included with the download of the complete 4 region set of materials, and are also available separately.

Hi Jill,

I absolutely love your midwest region unit! I would like to buy the remaining units, but was wondering if there is anyone to credit the one region I've already bought, if I want to buy the complete set? If not no worries :)

Have a wonderful afternoon,

Dan

P.S. - I went ahead and ordered the Five Regions of the U.S. Units. I wanted to thank you again. I should have just ordered the whole set the first time, rather than buying one region first.

Hi, Jill! I just have a question, and I'm not sure if I'm repeating myself! I thought I asked this, but I can't find the response that my email says I got!

I purchased your 5 regions unit, and my students and I LOVE it! Our textbooks were so obsolete, and our district can't afford to purchase new ones. This unit supplements it perfectly! I love it! Anyway, I noticed that there is an update on it. I was wondering if you could tell me what the update is. Is it something specific that I need to print off a page, or is it an update that goes throughout the unit?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

TPT was having some technical problems with the Q&A system. I think it's fixed now--hopefully.

I corrected a few minor mistakes--a few typos and a couple mistakes in the actual information. I also added a rubric for the scrapbook pages. To get the changes, you will have to re-download the entire package.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with your download. You will need to contact TPT's tech support to help you with that issue.

You will need an "unzipping" program to unzip the files before you can actually open them. Winzip is a great free tool that will do that. You can google "open zip file" and find lots of other free options.

If you've unzipped the download and the individual files won't open, you can try re-downloading it from your Purchases page, then unzip it again to see if that works. If that still doesn't solve your problem, contact TPT for help.

I just purchased this unit and I'm so excited about it! I will only be able to spend 3-4 days on each region. Do you have a timeline or specific lesson plans you use when teaching this unit?
March 14, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Jill Russ  (TpT Seller)
If you're in a hurry, you can do one section of the region's packet in a day, which would take five days to cover one region. You can do it in four days if you combine Climate with another section.

For each day, I first have the students answer the "Before" questions on the reading guide. Then, we read and discuss the section and the students answer the rest of the questions on the reading guide. After that, they complete the section of the scrapbook. If you visit my website, http://mrsruss.com/Teachers/regions.html, you can find powerpoints with pictures that go along with each section of the reading packet.

If I have time to spend about two weeks on one region, the students read the section themselves and answer the questions the first day, and then we read the same section again and discuss it the second day. We spend some time practicing with the states on the map, and doing some art projects.

Thank you for your purchase! I hope your students enjoy it!

Hi Jill,
I just purchased your complete packet for the 5 regions of the U.S. It is wonderful and just what I was looking for. I also have the power point for the Southeast that you created. I believe it was a free one, but I don't remember. I went back on TeachersPayTeachers and I cannot find any powerpoints for the other four regions. Could you tell me if they are available and how to get them. I think the Southeast one was a great visual that went along with the unit so well.
Thank you,
Judy

I love your units on the regions of the United States. I am creating an iTunes U course with all of the materials we use for our Regions Project. This is for my students to be able to access the materials in one spot. (all of our students have iPads) This makes it available for other people to view and download. I was wondering if you would allow me to use one of the documents from each of the units to put in my course. I would list your link to buy the rest of your unit on teachers pay teachers. I would like to use the information sheet of each unit. What do you think?

Thank you for purchasing my units. I'm glad you found them helpful. Unfortunately, I can't agree to having my all of my regions information packets available on iTunes, even with a link back to my store. You can make only the free Southeast region information packet available on iTunes, but please don't make any of the paid products available for anyone else to download. I do appreciate you asking about this, and I hope you understand why I can't agree.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with a product, but I'm not sure I understand your question, and what specific item you are referring to. If you are talking about my free product about the Southeast region, that is the only region available for free. If you search my store http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Jill-Russ by clicking on either "Four Regions" or "Five Regions" on the left hand side, you will find products for the Northeast, Midwest, Southwest, Southeast, and West regions. If you are having a problem downloading an item that you have already purchased from your "My Purchases" area, you can contact TeachersPayTeachers through that webpage and ask them for help downloading.

bhanuschik re: Five Regions of the United States: Northeast Region Study Guide
Hello,
I'd love to purchase your "Regions" information but I have a slight problem. We are being asked to teach 4 regions. Therefore, the states are not the same. Is there a generic way to adapt or change the states/region names? Ex: Our northeast doesn't include MD or DE..they are part of the southern region along with 14 others and DC...The Midwest includes 12 states and the West includes the Mountain and Pacific states 10. Any ideas?

Great news!! I was able to revise my materials to go along with the four regions! If you look in my store, you will find a reading packet, a quiz, an anticipation guide, and a scrapbook activity for each of the four regions. I've also bundled the materials for all four regions together.

I'm so glad you asked me to rearrange things for you!! And please let me know if you see any mistakes or typos on anything.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching since I graduated from the University of Florida in 1987. I've taught first, second, and third grade in Georgia and Florida.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a teacher who believes in creating life-long learners. I want to make learning fun so that my students look forward to coming to school each day. I want the children to leave the classroom every day excited and wondering what they will be doing tomorrow. Above all, I want each student to feel that they can, and will, be successful in third grade. I want my students to always put forth their best efforts. When students leave my classroom, I want their experience with learning to be an experience they will never forget.
