re: Individualized Spelling Program for Treasures Reading 2nd Grade
I like what you've created. I teach 4th grade. Any idea where I can get the same type of thing for the 4th grade Treasures words?

Thank you. I haven't seen anything like this for other grades. I put this all together myself using the Treasures materials and some Project Read word lists we had constructed at my school many years ago. Have you checked some of the Treasures discussion boards for 4th grade? I know there are quite a few for 2nd grade.

Hi Carol, I guess it's the 6th edition. We were just trained in the NEXT version. I hope to get the updated version posted soon, though.

I did two workstations each day, so we had Rotation A & B. We did not do workstations on Friday due to testing. I'm glad you like it! :)

Hi Scipi! Well, first, I've rectified my not following your blog. :) Secondly, as much as I would like it, I am not actually a Dr. I have my Ed.S. degree, which is my Specialist degree. Lastly, thank you for your kind words and link to my article. I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope you found it useful. Thank you! John :)

Hi John~ I purchased your individualize spelling program for 2nd grade Treasures. I did this to get a better idea of how you set up your program. I currently teach 1st grade and use the Treasures series. I want to create challenge words for each week (like you did for 2nd). I was wondering what you used to create your list of challenge words.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tracy

Hi Tracy, Many of the words I used for challenge words came from Project Read spelling lists that some other teachers in my grade level designed many years ago. I also did some Google searches for specific word families and found some great word lists. I hope that helps. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for your purchase. John

Hi John,
Thank you for your reply. Do you have a picture as a sample? I love the way you showed samples of the other methods. It will be a great way to introduce the concepts to my class.

Hi Shelly, Actually, I don't have a picture of the spelling tree map sort, but I found some samples of the Thinking Maps online that might give you a good idea. Check out http://www.thinkingmaps.com/examples.php You've inspired me to post sample Thinking Maps on my website, though. Thank you :)

Hi, I was looking over your free resource for spelling. I was reading the choices and came across "Sort your words using a tree map." I am wondering about what a tree map is.
Sincerely,
Shelly

Hi Shelly, In my school district we use "Thinking Maps," which are graphic organizers the students use in all subject areas. A tree map is basically a way to categorize information. The students write their topic at the top of the tree and then branch out into as many categories as they want to sort their information. For example, with spelling I often have the children sort their words based on the number of syllables or the word family sounds. Thank you for downloading my free item. I hope you find it useful. John :)

(TpT Seller) re: Weekly Behavior Chart
I use a behavior chart too and have a place for parents to sign for each day. My behavior chart is briefer as I deal with Kindergarten and have to conference one on one at the end of the day. We do use a task chart which they fill in themselves as they go from center to center. It is similar to yours.
Your chart was a picture and could not be edited to suit other teachers' needs. Can you upload it as a word doc so we can modify it to meet our need?

Hi Cheryl,
Please check to see if you have a 2nd page of the document. I put the picture first because it made for a better thumbnail shot. You should have the full version to edit on page 2. Please let me know if you don't.
Thank you,
John

Thank you, John! That is so nice of you. Here is what would work best for my 4-6 graders. If the Assessment row (yellow) would have an ORF column, RF column, and then a Daze column. The Daze score range is 0-51. If 51 is too difficult to reach due to the chart below, 20+ would work as the tops for it as well. I hope this makes sense, if not, please let me know. I was also wondering if it is possible to add more PM rows. We progress monitor weekly. If there was a possibility to have 4 for each month. December would only need Benchmark. This is when we will do our Winter Benchmark and then we are off for 3 weeks. If this is too much, or won't work, I understand...no worries. Thank you for your kindness! Heather Hofman

Hello, My name is Heather Hofman. I am a Reading Specialist and ELL teacher this year. I am the Dibels coordinator at my school and purchased your individual student Dibels recorder. Our school Dibels K-3 and then all 4-6 graders that are in a Lang. Arts remedial class, SpEd, and ELL. However, our district doesn't have funding for us to enter our 4-6 on the Dibels data website. This is where your excel spreadsheet will be perfect for me to utilize! I was wondering if you would consider creating this without the NWF and in turn, adding the DAZE (Dibels Next version). This is their Cloze or Maze portion of the test. I am not excel savy and wouldn't know how to go about doing this without many hours of trial and error :). The calculations for the chart would do me in. I desire to become more excel savy someday. If you did create this, I would love to purchase that version of it. I thought I would give it a try to see if this is something you'd be interested in doing. Have a great day! Thank you again. Sincerely, Heather Hofman

Hi Heather, I'd be glad to make the necessary changes and just send you the revised file. You already purchased the original, so you won't need to purchase a revised edition. Could you please e-mail with the specifics of what you would like me to change? I am only familiar with the K-3 version. It won't be a problem at all to make the necessary changes.
Thank you,
John
