I'm in a pinch for a project in the realm of just completing Spanish-American War and World War I. Was going to do an argumentative essay on whether or not America did the right things switching their foreign policy from one of isolationism to imperialism. Was denied believe it or not. Now scrambling for a project with a quick turnaround. This is what they just learned. Do you have anything? Will purchase immediately if so. Thanks!

The post-war unit has a quick project included with it that I complete in class and they present it as well. It tackles the ideas associated with nativism, racism, post-war economy, the red communist scare and union strikes. I have received good feedback on this one and it is ready to roll out. The project is a monster foldable, but very east to create in pairs. It ask the students to create 4 different question on a scaffolding technique and then research and create the foldable based on the guided research. It is based on revised bloom's. it has several components to the lesson that will keep the students engaged. I do not know if your curriculum takes you into post World War One America, but if so this is a great follow-up.

Does this have a World War I project and what is the turnaround for 8th graders. Common Core Aligned? Thanks

Thank you for the inquiry, this unit bundle does have a project that has 3 mandatory pieces and a list of 6 choices from which students choose 3 other pieces to complete. The project is a portfolio and if you like I can send you some photos of a finished product. Some of the parts to the portfolio are completed in my class and you could arrange your lessons to mix pieces of the project with classroom lessons. Some of the portfolio pieces include labeling an attached map of listed battles and countries, choosing a political cartoon, and writing a short persuasive article on the start of the war (mandatory)... Optional list includes weapons and technology exploration, food of the era, super Venn diagram, timeline, letter from the front, and creation of a war bond. I could see a deadline for the portfolio of one week or shorter if woven into independent instruction. The bundle also comes with a few ppts and a reflective journal template for understanding trench warfare. This is one of my favorite units that I have used in class for the past 6 years and I have crafted it to work well for student understanding. I have aligned this to essential standards for social studies based on revised bloom's taxonomy. This lesson does align well with promotion of literacy under common core and uses criss strategies for reflection. I do use my textbook and other sources to help the students with the portfolio and unit. With this unit I have even made a mock trench line in my room and we wrote letters home as soldiers... Which pairs with the project and then used the reflective entries for a look at the results of trench warfare. If you decide to purchase his unit, you might wan to look a my post-war lesson, I enjoy this one as well and gave received some encouraging feedback. Thank you and please let me know if you any questions.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I will begin my 6th year in education this Fall of 2012. I teach in a high school setting that also allows students the opportunity to secure an Associates of Arts degree from a state supported community college. I enjoy working with all of my students in honors level courses of U.S. History and Civics.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I try to put the student in the driver's seat of their educational experience. I would like them to learn through an inquiry based educational environment. Through student questioning and investigation I believe my goals of student concept mastery will be met. Overall, I want to have fun and I want my students to have fun learning.
