Hi Jos76,
I purchased a ppt involving house vocabulary. I love it and it's very useful. I am trying to save the ppt so that I can make changes and add to it so it's the most relevant to my unit, but it times out (never opens).
Is there some type of setting that prevents the buyer from making modifications/additions/etc. to the one you created?
Thanks!

Jos76  (TpT Seller)
Hello,

There is no setting to prevent modifications and there should not be any issues modifying and saving. The timing out issue may be because of the size of the file. Can you tell me which powerpoint your are referring to so I can look more specifically? I have several of these in different languages.

Thank you,

Hello,

Is this the product that your are referring?

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Spanish-Writing-Packet-with-the-Verb-SER-and-Adjectives-173380

If so, on the fist two pages, students write correct form of the adjective for each picture, which represents a subject pronoun (see the key on the top of the page). On the third page students write sentences by choosing a subject pronoun on the left, then - or + (affirmative or negative sentence) and an adjective, which they put in the correct form depending on the subject pronoun being used. All the adjective us "ser" and this should be in the sentence as well. For the last section, students write sentence with the given subject pronoun, the verb "ser" and the correct form of the adjectives.

I hop this helps to clarify.

Hello,

All the squares should be cut apart and the pink cards are placed face down (separated as in memory or concentration, not in pile). Do the same with green cards. Players choose one card from each group and try to match the subject/infinitive to the verb form and when there is a match the player says a complete sentence with the verb form and responses to the question words.

Hello,

The circled pronouns are formal, so the "tu" is the finger pointing without the circle and the "vous" is the circled one. The same goes for the two uncircled fingers that demonstrates the informal plural "vous" and the two circled fingers demonstrate the formal plural "vous".

Hello,

You can really modify the rules any way that you would like. Get creative. I have done this with groups playing against each other with the board projected on the LCD or Smartboard. This involves the entire class at once. I typically have students get 3 in row, but it can be done with 2, 4 or even more. I find that 3 works well because this number gives them an opportunity to get points. 4 or more would give more opportunities to block the point.

Hello,

Thank you for the positive comment about this game. My students love it as well. I unfortunately don't have this in a color version because the majority of teachers only have access to black and white printing so I like to make the products accessible to this type of printing. I might suggest printing on colored paper to add some color to the game. I often color code the game cards by topic so that they don't get mixed up and I can easily identify them (Imperfect: green, Preterite:yellow, etc.)

To 'open with' adobe reader on a mac, highlight the product pdf icon with one click, go to 'file' at the top of the screen, choose 'open with' then select 'adobe' and you'll be all set.

Also, feel free to email me at flclassroom@gmail.com and I will send the WORD version.

Thank you,

Why do you have the number of squares listed in parenthesis after the ship name:
1 porte-avions (5 cases)? Does that ship take up that many squares? I have played Battleship, but it's been years and I don't remember having more than one square for each ship.

Hello,

You are absolutely correct. The number in parenthesis is the number of squares that each boat takes up. The boats can be horizontal or vertical and can't cross each other.

Thank you,

Might it be possible to purchase an exercise like this in a format that could be edited? You have lots of great activities that could be easily modified to use in another language.

Hello,

I appreciate your question. The problem with modifiable WORD documents is that if the buyer does not have the same version of WORD (MAC, PC, 2009, 2011, etc.) the spacing and images will be altered to the point of not being able to use it. This is the reason why I post in PDF because the format is set. I am happy to email the WORD versions of any product to the buyer after purchase of the PDF. The Crossword Puzzles must done from scratch each time because the words and the puzzle will be quite different, though the picture page could be easily modified for another language. If you purchase and activity in PDF and would like me to send you the WORD document, send me a message here with the email where you would like it sent and I will send it asap, and delete your message from this board so that your email is not left for all to see. Unfortunately, there is no way to send private messages through TPT.

Thank you for getting in touch with you question and I appreciate your understanding.

Hello,

I have been using this particular map for several years. I use the image to put it in different documents because the spacing does not always work out in Word. I was not able to find the original Word document, but I made a new map document with the same layout and place names in Word for you. I am sending it to the email address that you provided. I would suggest that once you modify with the places you would like that you also capture a screen image of it to place in documents because the layout will surely pose some challenges. I hope that this helps and will provide you with what you need, and will also alleviate your initial disappointment when opening the document and finding that the map was a fixed image. I appreciate your understanding.

Thank you,

TeachingFSL  (TpT Seller) re: Circumlocution in French, Strategies for Student Speaking and Writing
I know I already rated this, but just thought I'd come back to say what a hit it was! Since I teach immersion students currently, I added an extra point for them identifying the object in French as well, thereby omitting any English (at least for some of the descriptions). One student said "We should do this more often, Madame!" so I think I can use it as a little reward activity from time to time. Merci pour les directives très claires et les excellentes idées!

Do the students see each other's boards? I'm confused about the set up. In my mind, I'm picturing a battleship type thing where they can't see each other's boards but it doesn't sound like it, based on the directions.

I'm also wondering how many students agree with each other but both are incorrect? This is a serious problem I have. They lead each other down the path of complete inaccuracy! What do you do about that?

Hello,
The board has 100 squares and there are subjects and infinitives in each box.Students play against an opponent and choose a box. He then says or writes the correct verb form. If the opponent agrees that it is correct, the player gets to color in the square with his colored pencil. If the opponent does not agree with the response the teacher is summoned to verify. If the answer is not correct the player loses that turn. When a player gets three boxes in a row of his color he gets a point, which is recorded on the bottom. Each player has a different color and employs a blocking strategy to try to prevent the opponent from getting three boxes in a row. To avoid students agreeing on an incorrect answer the teacher must circulate and listen to verify among the groups. The pairing of students is important as well. My experience has been that due to the competitive nature the players will attempt to verify if there is a slight doubt because the opposing player could possibly lose the square and the questioning student could win it.

I hope this helps,

Hello,

I actually print the entire book in black and white for my students and they have no problem with the pictures. The only chapter this doesn't really work with is the chapter on colors for obvious reasons. So, I usually print this chapter in color and the rest in black and white.

Thank you,

Bonjour, I bought this activity because it said it addressed adjectives and possessive adjectives. I'm unclear as to writing task, and how it uses possessive adjectives. I love the set up and organization, but am not sure how to use it to incorporate the possessive adjectives. If you have any ideas, I'd really love to have those passed on. Thanks so much!

Hello,

I leave the prompt fairly open so that teachers can focus the writing to what their students are comfortable with. This prompt regarding a problem with a friend lends itself to using first (mon, ma, mes) and third (son, sa, ses, leur, leur) possessive adjectives when students are directed to focus on a personal issue.

For example:

Mon ami Jean n'a pas de bon rapport avec mes autres amis. Il n'aime pas partager ses ....

Ma copine n'a pas accepter mon invitation à ma fête d'anniversaire.

Hello,

Students place boats (filled in boxes) on the game board. Students play against another student and try to find and sink the boats of the opponent. There are subject Pronouns down the left side and infinitives across the top. To choose a square, the player must say the correct form of the verb corresponding the square that intersects the subject and infinitive. All of the necessary vocabulary (boat names, hit, sunk, miss, examples of how to say a sentence) are on the sheet for student reference. There are two grids for each player to use, one to put his/her own “boats” on and the other to keep track of the opponent.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching World Language (French, Spanish) at the elementary, middle and high school levels for 17 years. I regularly present foreign language teaching methodology workshops at state, regional and national conferences and in teacher preparation programs at various universities. I have spent time volunteering in schools in impoverished areas of Nicaragua and a portion of the money earned through TPT is used to buy school supplies (pencils, paper, books) for students at the Panama School in La Concha, Nicaragua. Learn more about the school HERE. I am also working on curriculum development with schools in Haiti and will dedicate a portion of your purchase in this area as well.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am very communicative in my approach and rely very little on textbook materials.
