Over 30 years in the field of special education working primarily with students who have significant cognitive disabilities. I have worked as an Assistive Technology Specialist in a large metro county for over 10 years supporting teachers in developing materials that assist their mentally handicapped students access grade level content. My passion is developing materials that aid severely impaired students become active learners.
All students can participate - it's up to the teacher to find ways to make that happen. Learning is an active process. If my students aren't learning, then I haven't found the right way to present the information to them.
Published a 2 volume book for teachers on developing/teaching work readiness skills in the classroom: Mayer-Johnson Inc., 1996, From the Classroom to the Workplace. Received National Board Certified Teacher status in 2005 Have done consulting with various state and local agencies.
