Most of the activities are aligned to the common core standards. I would say the activities are best suited for students who have completed 2nd and 3rd grades. I included 1st because it would be a good packet for students who need a challenge and I included 4th and 5th because the packet would serve a a great review practice for over the summer.

You mentioned you weren't sure where to go next with activity packets. Have you ever thought of going "old school"? Lots of my students read the "Boxcar Children books". How about Diary of a Wimpy kid, Nate the Great, Judy Blume and "Fudge", Harry Potter, Indian in the Cupboard, Stink, Skippyjon Jones, Black Lagoon, Goosebumps, Little House, Encyclopedia Brown, "I Survived" series. It is correct. You will notice the pages you are referring to have the word "pages" on the top rather than "Chapter title". I did that because some of the chapters are very short, so I thought a teacher might want to assign a number of pages rather than a chapter. I should explain that in the packet. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Jones one, especially the "connections" pages. I didn't see a "connection to self" page for the MTH one, as you stated. Am I missing something? Also, for many pages, I don't see the text, like for page 20. I just see a blurred rectangle. Please help!!! Thanks!!!

Thank you for the compliment. The language arts packet we have for May is called "May Language Arts Packet: Cause and Effect, Guide Words, Homophones". We did not make packets for June, July and August. Instead we put together a Summer Language Arts and Math Activity Packet (66 pages), which has been a very good seller this summer. We didn't make math packets for February, April, May and June because teachers were buying the monthly language arts packets, but not the math. Maybe that's something we can look into for 2013.

I'm glad you like the packet. It's really up to you on how to use that page. You can either have the students write the verb from the onomatopoeia sentence or do the verbs and onomatopoeia columns separately. Let me know if you have other questions.

The measurements are inches, feet, yards, miles, Fahrenheit, ounces, pounds, cups, quarts and gallons. There is a deck of cards with clues such as, "the weight of an elephant's tusk". One student reads the card and the other student has to determine what measurement is used for the answer (pounds). The correct answer is on the card. If the answer is correct, the player places a marker on a circle marked with the word "pounds". Play continues until a player has four game markers in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally.

I am a retired 3rd grade teacher with 30 years teaching experience. I have written two books based on language arts and math activities. My other experiences include teaching continuing education online courses for several universities and PBS TeacherLine. These courses are specifically designed for teachers. I have also taught summer school for elementary students and adults. I have given workshops on topics such as Teaching Tools on the Net, Lively Language, How to Write Book Reports and creative writing. I currently teach student teachers at our local university.

I am the proud mother of 2 daughters, ages 29 and 31. During my free time I like to go to the lakes, read and research on the Internet. I am always developing new games, activities, units, PowerPoints and worksheets.
