You're welcome. I wanted to use a Maya Angelou poem because her poster is in Melinda's closet. There's also a parallel in that she was a rape victim as well. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not on the author's part but it might be worth mentioning to the kids. Have fun teaching Speak. I love this book.

very useful when you want a quick "down and dirty" comprehension assessment. Did the kids read the book is the answer you will get at the end of this test - and that is useful information. It's painless for kids who did read the book.

Thank you so much. If you aren't already doing so you should follow my store. I have materials for many different novels. You could have your students write a compare and contrast essay after they've seen the film. My students don't like the ending of the book. You could students write their own ending. You could have kids do some research about the camps and talk about how the friendship between the two boys is pure fiction (I know that's one of the biggest criticisms of the book.) If I think of any other writing topics I'll let you know. Once again thank you for the nice compliment.

I'm glad you like my materials. I've taught the book 3 times and the kids love it. They also enjoy the movie even though there are a few changes. If you're a Harry Potter fan you will find it intetesting that the actor who plays Lupin is Bruno's father. It just shows that he's a great actor that he can play such different roles.

It means stop. The man is in the pushing position and that implies that he's trying to stop something. The red octogon itself is widely known for being both the shape and color of a stop sign. If you think it's too difficult you can replace it with another picture or remove it entirely. It's a Word document so you can alter it.

You know your students better than I do. I don't know if they're advanced, special ed, ELL, etc. In my opinion Romeo and Juliet is easier to understand than some of the other plays. You can also get adapted versions like Shakespeare Made Easy which will have the original language on one side and the modern version on the other side. I've used those before.

Unfortunately I haven't had the time to create answer keys for everything in this extensive package. My Hamlet unit is currently the only unit in the Shakespeare package that has answer keys. I plan on adding them but it will take some time. I'm going to be teaching Macbeth in the Spring so that will be the next unit that I'm going to add answer keys for. I teach the GED to inmates at a local detention center and thought this would be a good read for us. Most are in for drugs and have struggled with it their whole lives, and many are not good readers. A book store was going out of business and I found these copies there. Do you think this is a good unit for them? I am really thinking the memoir assignment is a great project.

You know your students better than I do. I have used this book several times with high school students. I have a lot of students who hate to read and they got into the book because it's such a crazy story. During the course of the book she runs away from home twice, gets raped and becomes a prostitute. She also sells drugs to kids. I know that some teachers are not comfortable with these topics. She does every drug from pot to acid in this book. It's a pretty easy book to read but the topic is controversial. You can have them write a memoir at the end about something that changed the course of their lives.

Thanks. I actually just changed a lot of things yesterday. Someone told me that seeing thumbnails was important. I had uploaded the cover of various novels and plays as the display picture and by doing that I had no thumbnails. After hearing people say they wanted to see thumbnails I went back and changed a whole bunch of things around. I don't know how to change the heading bar.

Tammy, TpT is acting all wonky again & won't let me leave a reply, so I apologize for leaving this on your Q&A. I hope they get these glitches worked out soon! Here's what I had typed (thankfully I could copy/paste): "Not yet. I'm torn on what to do with it. It seems that people are beginning to expect all my units to have as much in it and I just can't deliver that. So I'm thinking of trimming it down. I added so much to the Student Survival Guide & Themes/Symbolism/Map of Panem packets last time, that I may just include those & the tests and maybe just a few other essentials. I still think it's a bargain and at least those who already purchased would have all the other stuff I previously included."

I teach remedial math on the college level and my students love color and clip art on their tests! I think it takes away some of the stress and panic of a test that many of them feel.

I do clip art once in a while but I can't make color copies at work so the color part would be lost. I can start adding more clip art. Once the summer hits I'll work on my stuff that I've already posted on here. I'll add clip art and color. That seems to be the #1 suggestion from several people. Thanks.

Here are a few suggestions that might help you to better market your products. First, create a cover page for EVERY product you create which can then be used as an attractive thumbnail to entice buyers. Put some color on your worksheet. Even though buyers will print it in black and white, for some reason, they love color.
Add a second page which is a directions or suggestions page. List several ways you use this product in your classroom. (Is this an independent or group acitivity? Is it an assessment? Etc.) Never assume that a buyer knows how, why, or when to use your product. Use the footer to put the copyright symbol, your name and date of creation on EVERY page. Items, especially free ones, have been "stolen" from TPT and posted on other sites to be sold. You have to protect all of your creations. Also, number your pages.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I taught middle school for 2 years. I'm currently in my 11th year of teaching high school English. I also teach one course on the college level and I've done this for seven years. I have taught creative writing and public speaking electives in addition to regular English classes.
I decided to change the name of my store to Juggling ELA. I always feel like I'm doing a metaphorical juggling act. As an ELA teacher I need to teach novels, short stories, plays, poetry, different genres of writing, grammar, vocabulary, etc. I also feel like I'm teaching social studies some days with all the background information I need to know for the various works of literature. I've worked hard in the last 13 years and now I'm trying to help other ELA teachers through TpT. If you have any questions or suggestions let me know.
