Hi, I purchased your Consonant Blends and Digraphs Activity Pack (which I absolutely love) - thank you for making it! There is a game with dominoes for blends/digraphs but I can't quiet figure out the rules for it and how to cut the pictures and letters for my students to play. Can you please explain? Thanks

Joanne Sims  (TpT Seller) re: Volume 5- Cookie Sheet Activities: Blends and Digraphs
Hi Julie! I purchased the Volume 5 cookie Sheet Blends & Digraphs and when I was printing them off last week, I realized there's not a sorting sheet for "th" "wh". There's one for "sh" "ch" and one that contains all 4 (which I printed in multiples!) I was wondering if you could check on your end and update the file? Or maybe I'm missing something?? Thanks so much...love your work!

Do you have a version with the pictures in grayscale so the students can color them too? The copy machine at our school makes color pictures so dark they're hard to distinguish making it difficult for our ELL students.
Thanks

Hi Judy- Right now I don't have them in grayscale, but I will contact my artist and have her redo the pics in grayscale so that they are clearer on a copy machine. I've laminated my pages so I didn't run it through a typical machine. If could email me at julie.vanalst@gmail.com I will send them to you when she's finished. It may be a little bit as she's working on another project for me. Thanks. Julie

Hello, I just have a question about the Swat game- do your kids play this game with partners, or a small group? I have not yet found a successful way to play it with a small group of children. Do you have any suggestions? When I lay out all the flies/words, and I call out a word, it's hard to tell who swatted it first when they all swat it at pretty much at the same time. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Julie Van Alst  (TpT Seller)
Actually, I play this game in small groups (typically no more than 3 students) and we hand the swatter from student to student. I put velcro on the swatter and the flies and just have the students swat any words. They read the word that was picked up by the swatter. It seems really simple, but the kids really love it. Hope this helps.

The letter I use are the 31 Uppercase Letters and 31 Lowercase Letters. The lowercase item number is 01388120A and the uppercase item number is 01388121A. Here's a link to the uppercase letters, but not sure if you can click on it here in the comment section.

Is there a reason why page 7 and 8 are both fishes? Usually you alternate between fish and words, but on page 7 and 8 there are two fish pages in a row. Makes printing less fun.

You really can't correlate the phonemic awareness kit to a DRA level. Phonemic awareness is a foundational skill. If you are screening using the DIBELS Next, it would correlate to the First Sound Fluency assessment and the Phoneme Segmentation Fluency assessment. This kit is most appropriate for kindergarten and beginning to mid-first grade. Hope this helps. Julie

Those pages are put in there so that you can print the eggs back to back and have the color on top of the egg. You don't really need to print them that way, but they look nicer if you do. Hope this makes sense. Julie

April 9, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Julie Van Alst  (TpT Seller)
There is a range from 3-5 eggs per nest. Most letters have 4 or 5. The "e" has 3. There is no "x" because the /ks/ is not a beginning sound. Here's the count:
1 nest- 3 eggs
7 nests- 4 eggs
17 nests- 5 eggs
Hope this helps.

Hi Christy. I am so lucky to have my own artist who creates the art around my ideas. Since the art is my branding I do not sell it. I haven't seen any other caterpillar like it. I have, however, seen products with a caterpillar very, very similar to the Hungry Caterpillar available through an Etsy shop. It's so similar that I would think it would be a copyright violation. Sorry, I'll keep a look out, though. Julie

I just wanted to thank you so much for offering the products that you do. This past summer was critical to my own child's reading instruction. She was about to enter 3rd grade and was still struggling so much with reading. Although I am a 3rd grade teacher and had two older children who read beautifully, my youngest did not. I was so unsure as to the best and fastest method to get her reading. She just seemed to have a block. Mid-year in second, we hired an outside tutor, a retired Reading Recovery teacher, who worked with her 3 hours each week. She made a lot of progress, but it was up to me to fill in the rest of the gaps over the summer. I loved the "already-made" phonics resources you offered. We drilled with those "r-controlled" flash cards from your Lucky You!... game (a purchase we made), and sorted picture sounds over and over (your freebies). I also bought Consonant Blends and Diagraph Dominoes. Thank you again so much! Although reading as FINALLY clicked with this little one, I still share your materials with other teachers. If you have a blog, or pinterest page, I would love to follow it. Again, THANK YOU! You were such a life-saver, literally!

Susan- Thanks so much for leaving me this message. Ironically, my third child had a difficult time learning to read and that's really why I started making the games. I remember the panic and the worry and working with her over the summer months to catch her up. The only way I could possibly get her to work on anything reading-related was to make it into a game. She's 16 now- time sure flies. Reading Recovery is great and glad that worked for your daughter. My blog address is www.blog.maketaketeach.com I post quite a bit of free activities on the blog that are not here on TpT. I LOVE Pinterest!! I have a link on my blog for Pinterest as well as a newsletter sign up form if you'd like. Thanks again for the sweet message. Julie

Hi Julie,
I've been following you for quite a while and downloaded several of your centers and activities. Here's my question: Other than the flat centers, how do you store the games. . . like the fishing box for fishing for dolch words center? I've been slowly printing, laminating and collecting more activities to help me differentiate in my kindergarten, but storage is a big problem. Any ideas or places to demonstrate ideas would be helpful.
Thanks again for sharing so many activities for us!

Hi Karen-- I store the activities in plastic Sterilite containers. I group them by skill. If you want to check out my website, I have a picture of the containers www.maketaketeach.com You can find the containers at Walmart or Home Depot. They stack nicely. Hope this helps. Julie

Sorry, I have not bundled them yet. I've considered it, but each volume has so many pages. Also, I keep adding to series. Thanks for asking.
