Glad you found this test/quiz helpful. Hope your school year is going well and your students are becoming avid readers! When I entered this quiz on TpT it only allowed so many spaces for the title. I couldn't get both 'test' and 'quiz' in the allotted spaces. Hence I entered it under two titles: 1. novel test, 2. novel quiz. I tried to make it clear with the previews that they were the same. I feel it might be best to take one off. I'm thinking of just using the 'test' title and removing the 'quiz' title.

These quizzes were meant to check to see if the student actual read the book for their independent reading program. They were not used for novel study in a classroom situation. If you're interested in more depth and detail see the KABOB Independent Reading Program's info sheets for fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and short stories. These papers help the student increase their understanding of the books they read independently. I had them fill out the appropriate info sheet before they could take the novel quiz. For independent reading it goes deeper than most independent reading programs.

That would be great! I used these quick tests after the students read their independent novels and filled out an appropriate info sheet that required writing about the elements of their novel. They then took the T/F test before getting credit for having read their novel. See my KABOB Independent Reading Program for the info sheets for fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and short stories. Between the info sheet and the test, the students were able to give the novel some serious thought.

This was a true/false test only, and I would have liked other assessments as well. (This may be my fault for not reading clearly.) The vocabulary was a bit difficult for remedial 6th grade students, but would be appropriate for older students. The answer key was helpful.

Yes, these tests were used in my independent reading program to keep up with who actually read what book. I remember my students asking me to define what certain words meant. I used it as an opportunity to discuss the meaning of the word as they were curious since it would determine the answer to the statement. Some teachers have mentioned that they were able to break up the questions and use them differently to get a deeper understanding of the novel. I'm not sure exactly how they did it, but it sounded something like book talk discussions. Hope you're having a good year, and the kids are becoming avid readers. Thanks for your comment.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I was hoping the preview, the thumbnail picture, and the description would help the buyer decide if it was appropriate for the purposes intended. These tests were meant for checking independent reading of novels in your independent reading programs.

Yes they will. I found that students liked the challenge when given encouragement and some discussion on higher level thinking. I used short current event articles that were interesting and appropriate for them to delve into deeper meaning. You can see it in their eyes when they 'get' it.

The test is a cumulative test over the entire story. I used it in my independent reading program. With so many different books being read by so many different students, I needed quizzes to check on who read what book before giving them credit. I tried, as much as possible, to use higher level comprehension in the T/F statements. Thanks for your inquiry. Hope your school year is going well.

Here are the 10 KABOB program parts: (1) Reading folder $3.25, (2) Reading incentive games $2.00, (3) Fiction info worksheets $2.50, (4) Nonfiction info worksheets $1.25, (5) Short story and Poetry info worksheets $2.25, (6) Debriefing papers $2.50, (7) Booktalk Powwow forms and Book Bag Report $2.25, (8)Teacher forms $2.75, (9) Reading discussions and bookclub forms $2.00, and (10) the Reading Frenzy poster $1.25. Total $22.00.

The novel tests are true/false. They were used as a check for my independent reading program: KABOB (Keep A Book OnBoard). When my store page gets back online, you will find KABOB explained (they're reworking the TpT website). I have lots of activities that go into the KABOB program that lead to higher level thinking. The tests were just a check to be sure the students read the books. Also download my 3 free tests, and you'll get an idea of what the novel tests look like. Please keep in touch. I loved working my KABOB program in 5th and 6th grade, and the kids responded to it very well. I was able to get them to like, if not love, reading before I sent them to junior high. Your 40 BOOK CHALLENGE sounds interesting. I'd like to hear more about it. Maybe some of my KABOB program would fit into it.

About Our Company
I have 27 years of classroom experience in four different socio-economic school districts. Most of those years were spent in 5th and 6th grade as a language arts teacher. I was a reading specialist for two years, but found I missed the excitement and variety of the classroom.>>>I've encountered every type of reader or nonreader there is.
