I have been teaching nearly 20 years, and until last school year, I taught primarily 5th and 6th grade. Last year, I was moved to second grade during a last minute "shift". By the time I was successfully resuscitated, the school year had started and I spent the entire year shuffling. Previously, I never had to use centers (5th and 6th grade were treated more like middle school), and I felt like a first year teacher. I am on a mission to create engaging, relevant, and effective center activities that incorporate rigorous learning.I didn't anticipate that I would enjoy second grade, but I do! I love the fact that children at this age still get really excited about learning.
I am always adapting to the students' needs. We use lots of manipulatives, and I rely alot on my school's outdoor garden classroom to help provide real experiences.

I teach in the state of Texas, where we tend to do things our way...cough. Therefore, my activities will align with the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge Skills). My intention is to state the TEKS that are being addressed, but I am also going to include the Common Core Standards that are aligned as well.
