I absolutely love these activities. I used the Mouse Trap activity for my scheduled observation and it was amazing. My students had a blast! They really enjoyed building the Marble Race structures as well. Thank you!

I actually just use yarn to do that. It was hard to show in the picture, so I used a thin chain as a graphic, but I find that yarn attached to a paper clip works wonderfully!

I actually do all the clues in one morning. There is a build up with the leprechaun over the course of a couple of days, but the actual treasure hunt all happens in under an hour. The packet includes all instructions for all stages.
As for the clues, you have two options. The pre-printed ones have these locations:
cafeteria
computer lab
art room
nurse's office
lost and found
recess doors
main office
gym
guided reading library
mail room
I also have a page where the clues look exactly the same except I left the location blank. That way the only thing you would write in would be the location. I also have planning sheets included to help with this. I tried to make it as adaptable as possible to fit your needs!

I have had one user specifically mention using it with second graders successfully. Much of my feedback does not specify grades, so it is hard to say what grades they are using it with. However, I do try to differentiate the unit within the experiments so you could elevate it. It is really up to you!

Hi! I suppose it depends on how you want to use it. Any document can be projected on the SMART board, so you could open the PDF and have it showing on the board. The unit as it stands is not an interactive whiteboard lesson, so I don't think you could record data in it and save it. Does this answer your question?

I definitely do not do this with every book I read. Shared reading is one component of balanced literacy. So for read alouds, I might do a read aloud with accountable talk (discussion afterwords), or just a read aloud for fun.
Shared reading is a different component. It requires a more in depth look. The idea is that ALL students have a copy themselves, or access to a large copy (big book, SMARTboard copy, etc) so they can participate in the reading. It is a way of leveling the playing field and then focusing on certain features.
In the beginning of the year (Sept through late Nov) I do about one shared reading text each week. In ADDITION, I do lots of read alouds, reading lessons, etc). Shared reading does not play as big a role in the second half of the year. Then I focus more on comprehension and reading strategies. Hope this helps!

Would it be possible for you to make a set with the writing lines on each letter? I teach kindergarten and my little ones need to see the line spacing for each letter to see how they should be correctly formed. I really like the real pictures used instead of clipart. Thanks.

Hi Gina! I just checked my transactions, and it looks like you purchased the "How To Mentor Texts" packet. I do have another product that is the "How To" unit that includes the blank paper. I did create the paper, so this other unit includes pictures for an anchor chart, a pacing guide, blank writing pages, and another sample text. The kids won't be able to import pictures into this document, but they can draw or glue pictures on the paper. This is a link to that product.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been working with young children since I was sixteen years old, and was a counselor in training at summer camp. After seven years counseling, directing, teaching,and organizing camping and outdoor education programs, I began pursuing my teaching certification. I interned and worked at a Head Start, a daycare, and a Reggio Emilia based child development center with young children, all before finding my home as a kindergarten teacher for the public school system. I have now had the honor and privilege of teaching kindergartners for six years, and each year has brought more adventures, learning, and joy!
MY TEACHING STYLE
I believe in a classroom that honors children where they are, and teaches them to be the best people they can be as they grow. I am energetic and creative, and use lots of songs, music, games, and hands on experiments and activities in my classroom. I am also passionate about workshop teaching, using both writing and reading workshops in my class to meet students exactly where they are and help them to move forward. Most of all, I believe that teachers need to connect with their students in order to inspire their learning and growth.
