Hi Kathy,
I am so excited to use your fantastic idea for my observation this week. I just printed everything but now I'm wondering how I could have printed the cards so the detail numbers are on the back of the detail cards. Also...everything came out clear except the detail number cards and the main idea cards. How can I fix that? If it helps, I have a Mac. There are also a couple of errors that I can't fix because this is a PDF...
The word there should have been used instead of their on these two cards: Why are their (there) 13 stripes on the American Flag? How many parts are (their) there on a map?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Mary, I've fixed those typos and uploaded a corrected file. Thank you so much for letting me know.

I hope you were able to see the prep instructions on how to print double sided. Let me know if you need anymore help.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by clear. Are you viewing the file in Adobe? Macs usually default to Preview, so that's a good first thing to check.

I wanted to make sure you have what you need for your observation, so just email me if I can help you any more.

Happy Saturday!

Hi! I can fix that for you and help you print it correctly! Would you email me at secondgradesparkle@gmail.com? Thanks!

Hi Shorsfall79,
The error has been corrected. You will find an entirely new file, however, since I took this opportunity to completely revise it. Be sure to download the updated version.

Let me know if you need anything else!

Oh my gosh! Thank you! I will fix those tonight and let you know when it's done.

Hi! Unfortunately, the unit isn't broken down by specific stories. It's more of an overarching comparison/contrast unit that you'd need to read and compare the stories to do.

If you want the centers, I'd be happy to sell them to you separately. Just let me know! :)

I'm sorry about that! I hope you can find what you're looking for!

Hi! The organizers address country, food, other characters, repeated chant, and the magical elements found in each gingerbread story. They also help students compare and contrast those elements across the stories. The center activities are gingerbread-themed centers to supplement independent work time.

Hope that helps!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello! Yes! The file with the posters includes the same set from the preview, but with capital letters in a different font. (The original font didn't have capital letters.) I didn't get a chance to update the description yet. :) Thanks for asking!

I searched and searched for the best reading strategy posters (specifically for second grade) and I like yours the very best!!!! I purchased them and they are great. :)
I do have one small suggestion... I would like them even more if the first word on each poster was capitalized.
Nit picky, I know, but it would be awesome if the correct punctuation was modeled on the posters. Maybe the font doesn't even have capital letters? Just a thought. :) Thanks-- I also really like your fluency (awesome reader) idea and will be using it! :)

Hi there! You're right - the font doesn't have capital letters. But I'd be happy to adjust them for you with a different font! What's your email? I can let you know when I do that. Maybe 1-2 days or so? You could also email me at secondgradesparkle@gmail.com if you don't want to leave your email on here. :)

Thanks so much for your purchase! I'm so glad you like the posters!

Is this Main Idea Bag: Fiction aligned to common core?

Kathleen Daniel  (TpT Seller)
Hi rbetancourt,

Thanks for asking your question. Yes, this product was created to support an essential thinking skill needed to gain an understanding of multiple strands of the Common Core Standards.

-Understanding key details in literature (RL2.1)
-Understanding key details in informational text (RI.2.1) *Note, the text in Main Idea Bags:Fiction is not informational, but fiction can be used to scaffold this since the 'reading to learn' piece is removed. Thus, using the fiction text as a bridge to RI2.1 is an effective strategy.
-Determining the main point of text and identify the main purpose of a text (RI.2.4, RI.2.6) Again, using fiction as a scaffold.

Using Main Idea Bags:Fiction is also a scaffold for writing. It is an excellent scaffold for students to understand how to write and stay on topic. A skill which is essential for mastering all three writing genres from CCCS for second grade.

No, it isn't pulled from a specific strand, or meant for skill practice to master one strand. Instead, the purpose is to provide thinking practice that will be built upon as the text and work builds in complexity in class.

Hope that helps!
K :)

Hi! I'm really excited to use the main idea bags next week, but when I printed them out back to back, they didn't align because they are left aligned instead of center. When I went to cut them out, they cut a part off of one of the sides. Is there any way to get them centered so they match back to back?? Thank you!!

Hi schoolbellteacher!
Thanks for asking. :) I did not create the syllable anchor charts based on a specific program and unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the programs you mentioned. The rules for the charts are based on the standards from my state and general research that I did to organize the rules. If you decide to purchase the product and need specific anchor charts that are not included, I would be more than happy to add what you need. Just let me know!

Thanks again!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my 7th year teaching - and I love what I do! My experience includes both first and second grade as well as academic enrichment/GATE teacher for grades first through sixth. I returned to second grade in 2010 and I've been loving every minute of it! Second graders are wonderful!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love a buzzing, hands-and-minds-on classroom - and I'm not afraid of a little bit of chaos! I love when my students are talking and problem solving together. I use many different models of instruction -- but I like it best when my students are in charge of their learning. I work to provide the opportunity for 'ah ha!' moments. I love The Daily Five framework for literacy and Cognitively Guided Instruction for mathematics.
