What matters more to me than anything else is instilling my students with a love for learning: the kind of authentic learning that is actually self-discovery. School should be experiential and as such utilize hands-on type instruction as often as possible. Textbooks are resources and cannot be expected to address all classroom dynamics and learning styles, therefore, about 95% of the time, I create my own lessons, projects, activities and assessments. The most important aspect of teaching is creating an environment which supports students on an individualized basis, so that every student feels promoted, argued for, held up and kept going in a dynamic and situational fashion. Knowledge of true support requires applying psychological principles to learning, The better I understand my students' minds and lives, the greater advances I can make in their academic receptivity. This understanding requires examining cognitive and behavioral functions as well as a knowledge of developmental psychology in order to assist students in using their own internal resources to achieve their goals
