I have created and used such for a class on research methodologies, British Lit., and psychology. I have also amended the items to suit the demographics of my students. I am glad you enjoyed it!

I have not seen much teaching of critical literary perspective in public high schools even though it usually shows up in some way, shape, or form in state educational mandates. Regardless, I think it is so helpful in assisting students to understand the importance of the author's perspective when they rely on sources for research purposes. I applaud you for "feeling" its value! :)

Thank you for the feedback, B! I developed it originally for an honors class and had quite creative and entertaining results. My results from other classes were no less entertaining when assessed more on creativity and less on format. I found non-advanced classes benefited from my asking questions about tone and style after their recitation in order to determine and/or clarify their understanding. Thank you very much for the feedback! Interestingly, my students read their "complaint letters" aloud in class today to allow for peer critique. I was surprised how many of them did not want any compensation for their experience (Part C); they just wanted the establishment to be aware that there were problems that needed to be fixed. Kind of refreshing!

I also like those short story activities that can serve as anticipation of a novel unit or as an easy assignment to leave for a substitute. This unit is ok, but I think it is a bit over priced for what you get...I do not agree that this is a good buy for first time users...Had I not read the novel before, I am not sure that I could have used anything from this unit (except for the vocab)

I bought this because I was under a time constraint after getting the epic at the last minute. The cost of this led me to believe that there were some incredible things here. I was not pleased at the skimpiness of the unit. I could have gotten more from a catalog. Really too costly and not worth the money. Ridiculous.

I developed the unit for a psychology 101 class at a four-year college that originated as a trade school. The greatest percentage of our students major in criminal justice. I do not know the demographics of your students, but I will say that I believe the higher the student ability the more suitable this item is as an individual project.

In the unit, I give several ways to work with the material. The way I have found to work best depends on the dynamic of your class. Small groups work best if you have students who cooperate well and/or if the class is large. If you have a small group, they may need to work individually. There is a lot of information in the unit; I do realize you need to familiarize yourself with every piece, which takes time. The thing is that you have to know what each piece means so you know how best to distribute tasks to the students or groups.
Here is a list of possible tasks:
Victim Specialist – someone who knows everything in the resources relative to the victim
Suspect Specialists – same as above
Evidence Experts – for memos and/or photos
Experts Witnesses – on the various outside resources you may use
Cartographer – someone who creates a map of the homes of the persons involved
Linguist – someone who analyzes the language, syntax, and semantics of the messages and/or memos
I made up these titles. You can use whatever you like. Does this help?

Hello. I am the parent of a home-school student in Maryland who is about to begin the 11th grade. I am very impressed with your novel study products. The one issue that has been problematic for me has been the grading of essays, papers, and other assignments that are not objective in nature. While I grade using standard rubrics, grading is still a source of tension between my daughter and I. To that end, I am wondering if you would consider providing an assignment grading service for some of the subjective assignments that are included in the products you sell on this site. I would happily pay you an hourly rate for your work, as I think it would be much easier to simply have someone who regularly grades these assignments for whole classes do the grading. That way I could assign the work, and my daughter could not consider me the "bad guy" with respect to any grading comments or decisions that are made.
