I've been teaching middle school (taught all 3 grades at some point) for 9 years, all in English/Language Arts, and one year in which I had to teach both 6th grade ELA and Social Studies. Having taught all kinds of learners, I'm now specializing in gifted education.
Somewhere between old-school rules and diverse teaching for diverse learners. I don't think at all that differentiated instruction and good old-fashioned high expectations are mutually exclusive. I strive to provide authentic, project-based learning experiences in all of my classes, regardless of grade and/or achievement level.
Teacher of the Year Finalist, school year 2009-2010 My students have shown consistent growth in Reading End-of-Grade (NC) standards throughout the year. Recognized for contributions to character education program (lessons, reward systems, documentation). Twice attended Role Model Banquet/Ladies of - events as student-selected guest/honoree. Coach of the Year (track & field) for school year 2006-2007.
