Hi!

It is about 10 slides (maybe 8?). I will double check and reply again. It's designed for a single class period.

Hi Katherine,

I saw your "Casey at the Bat," reader's theater script, and noticed that you have a disclaimer/license notice on it. I also write scripts for kids, but I've shied away from using any derived work. Just curious as to whether you are aware of special licensing/laws that permit us to create and sell scripts derived from copy-written work?

Cheers,

Janea

I use Creative Commons. They have very detailed & helpful explanations of all their licenses (free to use on your work) that explain exactly what each one is for.

Is it just me...or am I missing the squirrel in the tree for the forest :-) Does this come with a squirell and tree to color or do I need to find my own for the pop up?

No, it doesn't come with coloring pages, but that's a cool idea! I happen to have an old inflatable palm tree and a stuffed toy squirrel that I use when I teach the lesson. :)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching middle school (taught all 3 grades at some point) for 9 years, all in English/Language Arts, and one year in which I had to teach both 6th grade ELA and Social Studies. Having taught all kinds of learners, I'm now specializing in gifted education.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Somewhere between old-school rules and diverse teaching for diverse learners. I don't think at all that differentiated instruction and good old-fashioned high expectations are mutually exclusive. I strive to provide authentic, project-based learning experiences in all of my classes, regardless of grade and/or achievement level.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Teacher of the Year Finalist, school year 2009-2010 My students have shown consistent growth in Reading End-of-Grade (NC) standards throughout the year. Recognized for contributions to character education program (lessons, reward systems, documentation). Twice attended Role Model Banquet/Ladies of - events as student-selected guest/honoree. Coach of the Year (track & field) for school year 2006-2007.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

M.Ed., Special Education, Elon University (2009). B.A., English (conc. Creative Writing), UNC-Greensboro (2004). B.A., Classical Studies, UNC-Greensboro (2004). Undergraduate study abroad - University of Hull, Kingston-Upon Hull, England.
