Katie,

I love your products. I have ordered your synonym and antonym pack, nouns, adjectives, and verbs. I was wondering if you might consider adding Proper nouns to your noun packet? Also, on some of the posters that compare items such as the past and present poster in your verb pack some of the words have uppercase letters and some of the words have lowercase letters. I was wondering if this could be changed so they were all lowercase. This is also true in the noun pack that has the different kinds of nouns. Just a thought!

I just signed up for the sale, so all my items should now be 20% off. I have been on Spring break this week, so I didn't even realize so many sellers were doing a sale this weekend, thanks! Which rhyming activities would you like together? A lot of them use the same rhyming clipart I have, so I don't want to bundle them together, since a lot of them are the same pictures, just have different "themes", so I wouldn't want to mislead buyers if they thought they were all different. But if you purchase one of the packs, just email me at creativeclassroomlessons@gmail.com and let me know which ones you purchased, and which ones you would like, I will email one free one for every pack you purchase. Does that make sense? I'm all about free stuff for loyal buyers, thanks!

Hi Kate,
I love this idea and would like to buy this, but at our school we have so many sight words that are a part of our reading program. I don't think your design has enough lines for the words. Do you include extra space for additional words?
Thank You,

Most letter boxes have 7 lines, a few have 5, and U, V, Y, and Z have 3. The way way I set it up is to put the first page on the front of the file folder, then the next two pages on the inside of the file folder. That would still leave the back for additional words. I then laminate the entire folder. I hope that helps!

Katie I bought your Dr. Seuss Read Bingo and there were several problems. First there are not 20 different cards there are really only 10 because they are just duplicates. Second, two of the cards the free space is not on the correct place. Third, two cards have two of the same pictures on the same card. So really there are only 7 cards that you can use. Everything else that I have bought from you has been great.

To make a purchase on TPT, your amount has to be at least 3.00 to check out, I think that is site policy. So I think you would need to buy something else for 1.00, then the site will let you check out. Or that community helpers game is included in my 7.00 community helpers unit, then you can get the game and a lot more for your community helper topic. I hope that helps!

I see, I am not sure if I have any suggestions of cutting down to five days, I have always taught it in about 8-10 days. For assessment, and this is just how I assess during all my writing lessons, I have a clipboard with a chart with all the students' names on it, each student has a square where I can take notes on, then during conferencing during writing time, I can do mini-lessons that apply to the individual student. I hope that helps!

Katie Hoss  (TpT Seller)
Hi Jeannie, I always touch on synonyms, antonyms, and homophones in almost all grades, since I teach K-5 ESL students. There are only a few places that the CCSS specifically mention anytonyms, which in my opinion do not match when most teachers address them. On the CCSS antonyms are only mentioned in K, 4, and 5. See Below:

Kinder:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.K.5b Demonstrate understanding of frequently occurring verbs and adjectives by relating them to their opposites (antonyms).

Grade 4:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.4.5c Demonstrate understanding of words by relating them to their opposites (antonyms) and to words with similar but not identical meanings (synonyms).

Grade 5:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.5.5c Use the relationship between particular words (e.g., synonyms, antonyms, homographs) to better understand each of the words.

In my antonyms unit, I have some more general CCSS language standards listed which I think would include antonyms. See Below:
Grade 1:
Vocabulary Acquisition and Use
L.1.5. With guidance and support from adults, demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships and nuances in word meanings.
Grade 2:
Vocabulary Acquisition and Use
L.2.4. Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grade 2 reading and content, choosing flexibly from an array of strategies.
Grade 3:
Knowledge of Language
L.3.3. Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.

I hope that helps!

Hi Katie,

I am interesed in purchasing your states of matter unit in my 1st grade class. In the descriptions, you write that its good for 2nd and above. Do you think it can be adapted to my little ones? Also, I see there are a few experiments included. Can you tell me what the oreo one is all about?

Thanks so much!
November 7, 2012 Report inappropriate comment
Katie Hoss
Katie Hoss  (TpT Seller)
Yes, I think it would definently work for first, I should actually change the description. If you read the comments on the unit, there were three people that said their first graders enjoyed it, there was even a comment that the sort was great for kinder! There are a lot of visuals in this unit (since I use it with ELL students) so I think it would be great for first. I think I originally put it down as second and above becuase of the students I specifically work with. I teach in a low income school city school and teach only ELL students. The oreo one is pretty basic, you basically talk about how chocolate can change from the three different states of matter (you start with a block of chocolate, melt it, and dip the oreos in it, freeze them and watch it turn to a solid again) Then you practice writing the steps using first, next, last... You could easily adapt it by providing a word bank with words like evaporate, steam, etc..

Just wanted to let you know there were no word cards to go with one of the plural noun categories (ends with y) so I had to make my own to do the sorting. You also have listed on the "plural noun rules" sheet LIES as being a plural noun under the "ends with y" category which is incorrect. Also, on one of the cards it should be tooth instead of the plural form teeth. I've only gotten through the noun portion of the bundle pack. Not sure I would pay $10 again.

If you go to the forums and search powerpoint, I think there are instructions on there somewhere. Hope that helps!

I saw your posting on the Sellers Forum page of Teachers Pay Teachers; so, I thought I would look at your freebie. What is there is well done and colorful, but a potential buyer wants a full product. Remember, this freebie represents your whole store. You want your freebie to be top quality! I learned this the hard way when I first started. My first freebie was really awful and I am glad some seasoned buyers pointed out to me the importance of having one that is high quality.

Remember to use the footer to put the copyright symbol, your name and date of creation on EVERY page. Items, especially free ones, have been "stolen" from TPT and posted on other sites to be sold. You have to protect all of your creations. Also, number your pages.

If you are unsure about what kind of freebie to offer, feel free to check out mine:

Thanks for the advise, it will be very useful! I'll maybe put the entire set of reading posters on there, or maybe pick a new product. I have been meaning to put the copyright on my products as well, thanks! Is there any particular sites that people are reposting the stolen material on that I should watch out for?

Sorry, I don't even remember where I found the clipart. I just joined TPT and I have just been uploading things that I have created over the years. Sorry I couldn't help more!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a 4k-5th grade ELL(English Language Learner) teacher. Many of my students begin school with no English speaking, reading, or writing abilities. With such a wide range of ages and abilties, it is hard to find a variety of materials. I love creating my own visual activities! (a must for ELL students) I enjoy creating materials that I can tailor to the individual students.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love doing hands-on activities. I try to design my lessons, so not only will the students remember the lesson, it will be memorable!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I recently have been named a 2012 Teacher or Distinction by Partners in Education and the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I began my classes while I was in the Military onboard my Navy ship. While out to sea I was able to complete some basic courses. I continued by general Education courses in San Diego. After leaving the Military I completed my teaching degree requirements at the University of WI-Stevens Point. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science, certified in Elementary-Middle School and Teaching English as a Second Language.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I currrently live in Green Bay, WI. Go Pack! I have been teaching in Green Bay for five years as an English as a Second Language teacher, and I really love my job and the awesome students I get to work with! When not busy teaching, I am also planning my wedding for this summer, to my wonderful fiance, Nick.
