dhenggeler re: Catapult Projectile Motion Lab - Toy Catapult that launches foam cats - Physics
Can you please tell me where you can purchase the cat-a-pult sets? I have used these in my 4th grade classroom for several years, and the cats are starting to lose their heads! :) My email address is dhenggeler@nen.k12.mo.us Thank you so much for your help!

I am sad to say that I can't find these anywhere anymore. Hands On Toys, where I originally ordered them, doesn't even have a web site or anything. I am so sad!

It does not. It's easy to make as you watch the video, however. The next time I use it in class (some time in May), I'll create a key to go with it.

I start and stop the movie as answers appear and give students an opportunity to discuss what they've seen.

I take different answers if my students can defend them when I come around to check them. For example, the one about the kitten could be first law if they ignore it hitting the refrigerator..

The rocket lab looks great! WHere did you purchase latex-free balloons? Thank you.

Amyette,

This lab is so much fun! It's one of the things students look forward to in physics.

I actually get balloons by the 1/2 pound at the Dollar Store. I warn students about the allergy (they know if they have it by the time they are in grade school). Most balloons today are latex free.

Oriental Trading and Party Stores also offer latex free balloons now. Orientaltrading.com is a great and inexpensive source.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

26 years as a physics and chemistry teacher. I was an co-author on the Teacher's Edition of a Glencoe Merrill high school physics text and have written ancillary materials for Glencoe and Holt in the areas of chemistry, physics, physical science, and environmental science.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a hands on teacher with a great sense of humor (I think!). I work to make engaging lessons that ask students to think for themselves. I love activities that have students saying, "Hey, look at this!"
