I have been an elementary teacher for 16 years. I have taught every grade in elementary except K and 2nd in that time. I have now taught 3rd grade for 10 years.
I believe all students can learn, no matter who they are or where they come from. Students grow when we take an interest in them and treat them with respect. When we believe in them, they learn to believe in themselves.
Yet to be added
I received a BS in Nursing from Cal State, Hayward. I worked as an oncology and hospice nurse for 12 years. Then, after testing out of the liberal studies coursework, went back to get my teaching credential at Fresno Pacific University. I teach at an inner city school in a very rough area of Fresno. I choose to stay, rather than transferring to a more affluent school, because the kids we serve need a teacher will experience, confidence, and backbone. The longer I teach, the more I have to learn. There is no final destination in education. We are "works in progress", along with our students - constantly learning, constantly growing.
