Have you ever thought of putting a digital image of your charts in your packets in addition to the pieces to make them? Deanna Jump does this for her writing packets, and I plan on using her digital copies on my interactive white board to show whole group. Just thought it would be fabulous for you to do the same!!

How would this be used besides a referral guide? It can be used to refer back to lessons to remind students of habits of good readers. You can also use them during your guided reading to teach/review strategies that were taught earlier in the year. My kids using them during partner reading time as part of their reading materials.

It really depends on your students. If they are already book familiar than I think it would work. Also, you can choose how deeply to take the understanding. All units could work that way. I think maybe you should try unit 1 and then you will be able to determine if the others would be a good fit for your class.

Jodee, it is probably not a problem with the file. Historically, it is how you are opening the file or the need to update your reader.
IF YOU EXPERIENCE TROUBLE OPENING THESE FILES:
1. Make sure you are using an up to date version of Acrobat Reader. You can check the version by clicking Help then About from within reader. If you have a version earlier than 5.0 or 6.0, you should update your reader.
2. If you have a Mac, you may be opening it with a Mac program
called "Preview" and not even know it. Preview has documented problems opening modern Adobe files. If you have a Mac, try opening Adobe Reader first (rather than just clicking on the file), then open the file within Adobe Reader. You may also choose to set the default reader to Adobe Reader by following the instructions here.
To change the default reader on a Mac to Adobe:

You will see a dialog box labeled something like this "sample.pdf" Info
Near the bottom, you will see a section titled "Open With:"

We are balancing the need for page numbers with the desire to unclutter the pages that are reproduced for classroom use. I think we have finally discovered a solution -- we put the copyright and page number in light grey color and thus can put on all pages, but it does not correct our old packets. I feel your pain, and will certainly put page numbers on the packets as we refresh them - using the light color page numbers.

All of these games can teach a variety of standards depending on the dice you give your kids. They can subitize, numeral recognition, add or subtract. The roll, say and count game can easly work on mixed operations while the who has moe game can easy have children adding two or three numbers together by increasing the number of cards you turn over. I do include the common core standards as I am updating. I think if I add those to the description, that might help. Do you think? That said, the games in these packs also deal with more and less, moving back and forth on the numberline to see where numerals are in relation to each other. Thanks for the feedback that will help me make a better product.

There are activities for compost, carbon footprints, forms of energy, recycling, Earth Day Pledge and Flag, birds and flowers. These are taught through art, cooking, poetry, science, subtraction, sentence structure. There is not a specific activity for reduce, reuse, recycle.

We don't have 7 or 8 yet. I think our curriculum director has bought them in groups of 3. The last one we have is 6 (we started later in the year so won't get much past 6 this year) I will check tomorrow if she has purchased 6 and 7, but she is probable waiting for the last 3 to be completed

Michele and I wrote them with a sequence in mind. I think they are best done in order; however, I think there is flexibility. I would be sure and do units 1 and 2 first as they set the framework. Then, you could possibly skip around. Some of the units build with difficulty. For example, an increase in reading strategies and taking the learning of characters to a deeper level, build over a few of the units. Hope this helps.

I am fairly certain I will be teaching second grade next year, but I love this product! Before I purchase it, can you tell me what about it is not really right for second grade? Since it is only listed as for K-1? Thanks!

Throughout the year the children increase their stamina. Mini lessons are 10 minutes, share time is 5 minutes, and work time can grow from about 5 in the fall to 25-45 in the spring.

All problems similar to yours have been resolved by one of two methods:
1. It sounds like you are either opening with an old version of Adobe Reader or if you have a Mac, you may be opening it with a Mac program called "Preview" and not even know it.
Preview has documented problems opening modern Adobe files. If you have a Mac, try opening Adobe Reader first (rather than just double clicking on the file), then open the file within
Adobe Reader.
You may also choose to set the default reader to Adobe Reader by following the instructions below.
2. If you are still having trouble opening and you know you are using Adobe, look to see if you have a newer version. You can check the version by clicking Help then About from within reader. If you have a version earlier than 5.0 or 6.0, you should update your reader. Please let us know if either of these actions solves the problem.
According to TPT founder, 100% of fuzzy graphics is attributed to an old version of adobe or a non-adobe product, such as Preview.
To change the default reader on a Mac to Adobe:
Click on the icon of a PDF file type then choose File --> Get Info
You will see a dialog box labeled something like this "Gobble Gobble.pdf Info
Near the bottom, you will see a section titled "Open With:"
That indicates what application on you Mac is the default if you open the file from the desktop.
Click on the pop-up to bring up the list of possible applications and select Adobe Reader (whatever version is installed), then click "Change All" to make it the default application for all .pdf files (if that is what you want to do).The OS will then ask you if you are sure, click "Continue."
Now the Mac will use Reader instead of Preview.
Make sure the version is new enough by following set 2 above.

Kim, way back I know that you posted pictures of a watermelon seed writing rubric. I always lthought it was eye catching and not too busy with graphics. I have seen others since but still think yours is the cutest. We are required to use a writing rubric and was wondering if you would consider making this to sell to go along with common core and a little bit more indepth than what it originally was.
