The Choice Box is one way to manage behaviors in your classroom. At the beginning of the year, I talk to my class about making choices.....what to wear, what to eat, etc. We also talk about making choices with our behavior...some are good and some are not so good. We role play and model appropriate school behaviors. We have a dry erase board called our "Choice Box". It helps us remember to try to make good choices. If they break a rule, their name gets placed in the Choice Box for making a poor choice and they have a consequence. I tell them that teachers don't get upset if they occasionally get their name in it because we all make mistakes. I hope this helps!

My name is Ida White and I teach in the Foley, Alabama area. My title is ESL Liaison for the Southern Baldwin County School District. I'm the one that asked if you had anything in Spanish to which you replied no but gave me permission to translate the documents. I am going to try to get it done this summer so we can hand out to our Hispanic parents at Kindergarten Orientation. I purchased the two packets below what I would like to do if you will permit me is type over the English with the Spanish translation that way nothing is changed. In order for me to do this I would like to see if you would consider removing the security access on the PDF files so it will permit me to translate the document. Off course you will receive credit as the creator of the packet. Please consider doing this so that it will be easier and quicker to translate. I really love both of these packets and have told my other teacher friends. I actually saw it as I was translation a one of our schools during Kindergarten Registration day, and fell in love with it.

I like this idea of simply highlightening the box that fits for the day. However is it possible to alter it?? I do not use the choice box you speak of and the two boxes seem to be redundant. I was wondering if you could make a change? If you can not I UNDERSTAND. I was wondering if you could change "choice box" to something like "My name was not on the green because I had trouble following the rules. Then in a second box below add something like "I am getting there and trying harder." In addition can you remove the faces? Although they are cute if it is a boy having trouble there shouldn't be a girl picture and vice a versa. I wanted to email this to you but could not find your email address on here.

I absolutely love your units. On one of the units I purchased I saw that you were going to create a unit on The Body,I totally understand this is our summer break so please do not feel rushed in me asking you this. I am our grade level planner and would love to purchase that unit whenever you think it willbe ready. Could you possibly give me an estimated date when you will do that paticular unit. Thanks so much.

Kim, I absolutely love this summer packet! I just bought it, and I'll be working today on getting it ready to send home on Tuesday. Is there any way you could email me a blank form of your calendars I could type on (i.e. like a Word format)? The reason I ask is June doesn't start on a Monday so I would like to have a calendar that I can write in an activity on Friday, June 1st. I think it would be easier if there were dates on the calendars to make sure students stay on track with their assignments. Also, what font did you use for this pack? I love it!

Since Common Core Standards published there are some skills like (ten frame activities & number combinations for ten) and some activities (time & money) that are no longer items that will be assessed in kindergarten leading to first grade. Can You give me a hint on what the 3 weeks assessments may look like? Our county has adopted the CCSS and has realigned the report card to match. I am ok with this part. Where I am struggling is I do alot of the activities I purchase off TPT. I am a center based classroom. I am afraid our teachers will interpret inputting "grades" in as children sitting at their tables all doing the same worksheet in order to get a grade. AAAAhhhhhhh! (Every three weeks sounds manageable)

No problem! Our three-week assessments usually cover one standard a piece. They are based on Common Core skills we should have been teaching in class the previous three weeks. They have 4 simple questions that help the teacher know if that child may need enrichment, remediation, or maintenance on the skill. Some 3 - weeks sessions we may have 3-4 in lang. arts and 3-4 in math. We have data meetings every 3 weeks where we bring the data we have collected from our three-week assessments. (We input our data into an EXCEL Spreadsheet. If a child gets a perfect score on an assessment it is an M for mastery, -1 is a P for progressing, -2 or 3 is an N for nonmastery. We then have 30 minutes built into our day called "Success Time" where we skill group the kids based on how they preformed on their assessments. We work with them in five groups on the three skills they struggled the most with, as a whole...one skill a week. (This is our school-wide plan. We were trained in the 8-Step Process, and that is why we do it this way. I was on the K assessment committe for our coporation and I helped create many of our assessments. Thanks so much for your support! At this point, we do not input grades into a program for parents to view. We do, however, do three-week assessments based on the common core and our pacing guide that we send home every three weeks, so parents have an idea of how their child is doing in class. Hello and thank you for your interest! I send my homework packets home with each child each month. Here are a few other ways I have seen them used for teachers on a copy budget: 1. Copy them front-to-back and send home. (This would take about 16 pages for three months.) 2. Use them at the bottom of the morning message for a quick daily practice. 3. Use them on an ELMO projected to a SMART Board as a quick, daily review. 4. Use them only with students who need the extra support. These are a few ways I have seen them used. It is your choice to have the kids return them or not. There are packets available for preschoolers coming into kindergarten, and fall, winter, and spring packets for kindergarteners. There is also a summer packet available for kindergarten kids going into first grade. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I would be happy to help you in any way that I can.
