Not necessarily in this order, but here it is... Fifteen years teaching inner city schools, primarily Spanish speaking ELL students. Five years with middle/upper SES students, in the South Eastern United States. During the 20 years I have been invested in the teaching profession, I have served in the following grades and positions: 1st grade (2 years), 2nd grade (8 years), 2/3 grade combination class (1 year), Multi-age classroom, 1-3 grades (6 years), Resource/Curriculum Facilitator, K-5 (1 year) Literacy Coach, K-5 (2 years).
Kids learn by doing and being able to explain what they are doing. Expressive language and active engagement in the learning process are key components to developing applicable comprehension of any subject for any student.
