Thank you so much! These worked well for me. I used these for my word family manipulatives that had the letter "q" because Chalkboard and Comic Sans font lacked a curve at the bottom. They blended in really nice. I gave you credit at the end of the document and in the description. Thanks again!

Thanks for asking and I'm so glad you love the calendar. I do not have the original file available for purchase. You might want to try and draw text boxes and shade them in to match. That might be the best solution, although it may not work out perfectly. You might also want to try just colored text as a way to color code.

Thanks for your compliments! To answer your question, the standard you are referring to is not assessed in this product. It is a pdf product so you wouldn't be able to add to it, but you could always inside your printed packet if you had one you liked to use, I guess!

I am a canadian teacher and our full day curriculum is similar yet different from yours but your journal work pages are awesome and I can't wait to use them with my class. The problem i am facing is that I would like to create my own but still use your pictures and have the same feel. May I also recommend microsoft clipart online? I often start there to look for basic pieces or pieces to pull apart to make my own that are more simplified. I am so glad you love the guided math pack! Thanks!

It would be a very similar format in word, where you are creating boxes to type into "on top" of the calendar... not actually into the template itself so I don't think that would be the solution in this case. I have both this pack and the extension and we love them in my classroom. I was wondering if there was any chance you would make some extra word cards (I would buy them). We use a program called Rainbow Words and most of the words are included in your packs but there are some that are not. I would love to have them all so my kiddos could practice stamping all the words that they are working on reading. If this would be a possibility let me know and I can get you the words we would need.

Hi Holly - This product is a simplified version of the larger bundle and it includes an excel spreadsheet to be able to show growth. The tricky thing with the large packet is sometimes going back and forth within it to see how they last performed and being able to track it. This has multiple places on one page (like on counting to 100) to record growth as you reassess some of the standards over the course of a year. It's probably a more realistic version of what can be assessed on a regular basis (since some find doing the entire bundle overwhelming) and gives you the excel spreadsheet to document the results and have a handy way to show your administration or to have the data in front of your for report cards. The main difference is in the layout of having places to document re-assessment, and then a place to record it all in the excel spreadsheet making it easier to present to administration. Hi Keri, I have bound them in different ways over different years. In previous years I bound them by color to give a variety of formations and to match our curriculum. This year I bound all uppercase together and made a separate book for lowercase. I also know that some teachers place theirs into a binder to keep them all together. I am a new kindergarten teacher this year so my library is very small and simple--I was hired on back-to-school night so haven't had lots of time to organize my library as it's all I can do to keep up with the daily needs! My categories right now are very general--fiction, non-fiction, seasons and holidays, & counting and ABCs. (I also have "animals" but you already have a label for that.)
I was wondering if you could create some more general labels (or send me an editable version of your labels so I could do it for myself) using the same pictures and ideas you already have--like "science" with the pictures for weather, plants, and space; and "holidays" with the pictures for various holidays, "seasons" with the pictures of all 4 seasons, etc. That would be a huge help for newbies like me who don't yet have enough books to be able to sort our libraries so specifically! I would be willing to pay a few dollars for your extra time.
I was wondering if you could create some more general labels (or send me an editable version of your labels so I could do it for myself) using the same pictures and ideas you already have--like "science" with the pictures for weather, plants, and space; and "holidays" with the pictures for various holidays, "seasons" with the pictures of all 4 seasons, etc. That would be a huge help for newbies like me who don't yet have enough books to be able to sort our libraries so specifically! I would be willing to pay a few dollars for your extra time.

Miac re: Gingerbread Adventures Balanced Literacy Unit
I am assuming since you decorate the gingerbread men before you 'bake' them that you do not in fact have to bake them at all, correct? I just wanted to clarify before I had sad children with gingerbread dough instead of gingerbread men, ha! :) Thanks so much for this unit, my kiddos are loving it!!!

Thanks for sharing your excitement! The holder I bought was from Lakeshore, however I do not think its available anymore. Perhaps a scissors/marker holder might work the same way... or one of those cylindrical ice cube trays might do the trick! I'd love to find out what works for you as others have asked the same question!

This is probably a silly question...but do you happen to know what size of magnetic drawing board (doodle pro) fits the 'composing and decomposing' practice cards? I found several different sizes online. They give the dimensions of the product as a whole but not the actual dimensions of the screen itself. Thanks :) And thanks for a great product!!

If you look at the Lakeshore Learning site and search for "magic boards", you'll see the ones I use in my classroom that are blue for $8.95 piece. Thanks for asking! So glad you love the product!

Miac re: Read and Respond Pack
Is there any way for me to get an enlarged version of the retelling symbols (the gingerbread character, the street sign setting, the fish problem, the band-aid solution, stoplight beginning, etc) that you use in this pack? I have a retelling 'road' that my students sometimes use to retell stories and right now it has different symbols than the ones on your pages that you have created. I think it might help them if the symbols they see on their worksheets from your pack matched the one on our retelling road. If that's not possible, no worries but I thought I would at least ask! Thank you!

Hi! These poetry notebooks are something I use in a listening center as I've created verbal directions on reading with a pointer, highlighting a focus letter and drawing a picture to match. I also use the Poetry Pack in a poetry center as talked about here: http://www.kindergartenworks.com/2011/07/read-little-louder.html and here: http://www.kindergartenworks.com/2011/08/po-et-tree.html. So we use the poem whole group first, and then the poems show up in two of our literacy centers. I usually bind every poem together into a packet for each student and students go to the one that we just worked on and they are familiar with. I also do that so I have less to manage on a weekly basis. I hope there is enough flexibility in the poems though so you could do it as it would work for you in your classroom!

Do you have access to another printer? That would be the easiest option (or perhaps to print to a copy machine in your school?). But you can also choose to rescale a pdf when printing under your printer options by selecting a percentage under 100% which will help with the margins and shrink the entire document and therefore print all of it. You'll need to play around with the number, but that should work!

As a district, we chose the standards we felt were most important to share with parents from each of the quarters. Very few standards overlapped, but we had about 15-20 standards per quarter that we ended up reporting on. I don't have a report card to share that matches the assessment. Sorry!

Dear Kindergarten Works, I absolutely love your bundle. I showed it to my principal the other day and she thought it was outstanding. I have a problem, my co-teachers were reviewing it and they said that you had standards that we do not have. For instance, K.RL.5b Recognize poems by the features. We just received these standards at the beginning of this school year without any training. The info we were given is that the whole country will use the same standards. Do you or any of your colleagues know of a website where all the CCS are listed. Thank you in advance. Cindy

Our standards were broken down in sub-standards (so that's why you'll see letters and numbers like .5b) that help compromise the larger standard headings. It does make the standards seem like there are many more, but definitely makes the standards seem "doable" in reasonable sized bites! We felt it was necessary to be able to pinpoint the strengths of students on each of these. Here is an example of the larger Standard (K.RF.1) that you'd probably have a copy of. And then you'll see the standard broken down below. Leslie- Love the Library overhaul! Also have enjoyed watching the kiddos put things back where they belong! I was wondering, how/if you can adapt the basket label as well as the book labels. I have a few that I don't like how they fit anywhere else (Ex: Disney, Olivia, Pinkalicious are just to name a few). Thanks for the product and any info!

Hi, I usually would put pinkalicious into the "fun and silly" category or if they become classics in your classroom, I'd add those. I've even created a basket that rotates quickly in our classroom and added just a "books we love" label and those come from all other baskets but are ones we read and reread a lot as a class and love. Perhaps your Disney books would fit into the classics or fairy tales? You're welcome!

Hi Kidsnc, We have updated our report card to reflect the new standards. We had a committee select the ones from each quarter that we felt were most important to communicate to parents and updated the card to reflect those chosen. We use the rest for guiding instruction, reteaching and remediation as well as grouping. So glad you love the packet.

I have students that struggle what language and vocabulary so I think this will help make a real connection for them. What resources did you use to make a strategy and connect it to the students? Hi Shanz224, I wish I could point you in the direction of a book or online resource, but to be honest - all of the magic is in a name. I learned this when first teaching rhyming and I always, always start a new concept by teaching it with a name if I can. We use these little "bits" the most during interactive writing and then they translate really well into being utilized during our guided reading sessions and eventually independent reading. I think that perhaps my kinders were the ones who helped me learn this as a strategy becuase they are the first ones to point out, "Hey that's like in my name..." :) The bits that I didn't feature on that list are sh, ch and th, but you've got the rest! Thanks for taking time to ask and best wishes to you and connecting these bits of our language to what your students know best - their names!
