In many of our schools today we are working with students with very poor communication skills, either from poor environments or possibly students on the Autism spectrum. Whatever the reason we need to find ways to check for understanding and comprehension. This mini unit consists of three stories which can be put together into small books. Each book contains two worksheets with comprehension questions in which these nonverbal students can circle their answers rather than write or verbalize.

I believe in a very hands on approach to teaching. Working with weaker students, I am constantly trying to come up with creative activities that will keep my students interested and willing to work to their fullest potential.

I have been married for 31 years and have two wonderful children. Both grown and homeowners. Their rooms have been dismantled and made into a craft room and an office. So I am seriously hoping they will NEVER come back to live. But if they do I would take them in with open arms.
