This looks like a SUPER activity (haven't used it yet, but will tomorrow), however I just have one small comment. I don't think that most of my kindergarten students will get the first word on the second page "heart". Most of my students would "sound" that word out as h-r-t, or possible -h-a-r-t (as they have learned about the "ar" sound). I know this is nit-picky on an otherwise great activity, but maybe there would be a better word to replace that first one.

Update: I have tried updating my Adobe Reader and left it about an hour to see if it would download, but nothing, only 13 pgs load...pg 6 is all mixed up and pgs 11-13 are blank. Hi Elizabeth, a few other people had the same issue but when they updated their Adobe Reader to the newest version it worked. Try that...and give it a chance to load because it's a big file...then let me know if that doesn't work. :)

Since it's a PDF the fonts will come through even if you don't have it in your font files. Try updating your Adobe to the newest version and see if that helps. If not, let me know and I'll figure out something else. ;)

Hi Sam. Did you try updating your Adobe software? Download the latest version and restart your computer. That should help. You can also try to print from the icon instead of from "File" at the top. Hover your mouse anywhere over the PDF & a row of icons will appear at the bottom. See if you can print from there instead. I don't know why but it seems to make a difference! Please let me know if any of those ideas - or none - work out for you!

Hi Debbie, There is not a hat or face pattern included. I printed a coloring page to get the hat and traced the face. If that is something you're interested in I can make a pattern. I'll let you know what it's uploaded...you'll be able to get the updated version for free. :)

Hello Kristin- I love your visual schedule cards- I would love to print them out and use them in my class! There are a few additions I would love to have (and would be willing to pay a little for your time and efforts ;o) I was hoping for a PE, Drama, Spelling, Creative Writing, Language Arts, Planners, Calendar, Field Trip, Assembly, Journal, Action Break, Special Guest or Visitor. Hi! Thank you...I love them too. ;) Some of the graphics are in color and some are not due to the graphics themselves. Since I didn't originally create them I can't add color to the black & white ones. {I just colored them in with my trusty Crayolas before laminating!} I would be happy to create the additional ones for you if you can give me a couple of weeks - I'm just about to go out of town for my the birth of my nephew. :) Let me know if that's ok and I can do it!

Hi! I've had that happen before when I download PDFs and I'm not sure why. Try a couple of things...#1 make sure you have the most updated version of Adobe or whatever you're using to print. #2 Instead of going to File -> Print at the top, hover over the page and an icon will show up at the bottom. Click the printer there and it should work better. Let me know if neither of those works! ;)

When I downloaded my purchase I only got 12 pages and the last one is the character pattern sequence. Am I missing something? Just curious! Peter Pan was my first unit to create and upload and I think I listed it as 18 pages TOTAL even though I had to upload it as 2 different products (due to different layouts). Thank you so much for this exercise. I teach Pre-K and although we are constantly reminding the kids to "stretch" their words we have never paid formal attention to the phoneme segmentation in terms of the number. What is the easiest was to explain it to the kids so that they understand because I believe it would help in terms of their stretching themselves. Especially the ones that are less independent when sounding out and spelling their own words.

Thank you so much for this exercise. I teach Pre-K and although we are constantly reminding the kids to "stretch" their words we have never paid formal attention to the phoneme segmentation in terms of the number. What is the easiest was to explain it to the kids so that they understand because I believe it would help in terms of their stretching themselves. Especially the ones that are less independent when sounding out and spelling their own words.

Hi! I didn't realize I had a Q&A section until just now so I apologize for the late response!!
The rewards I use are {as you climb the chart} a sticker, tattoo, piece of candy, treasure box or lunch with a friend. The consequences I use are {moving down} nothing for warning, time out in another room for cool down and obviously, calling the parent for parent contact. If they've clipped down before we go outside, anyone below Ready to Learn also owes me a few laps around the playground before they can play. I hope that helps!! :)

First of all, I apologize for the extreme tardiness of this response...I just discovered this Q&A part of my page! :p
Instead of sending home another piece of paper, each child has a planner {notebook with a weekly calendar on each page} and I write down wherever they end up. I would be interested in using some of your materials on my website universalhomeschool.com (this website is due to be released in August 2011). The site will mainly focus on teaching videos for children who are being homeschooled, or need the extra help. We will offer math, reading and writing. I started building this site about a year ago and during this time I have been creating videos, quizzes, worksheets and lesson plans. I originally wanted a site that would be available for free to parents and teachers. Unfortunately because of the cost of the hosting, development, materials, and other overheads having a free site would be impossible so I will be charging a yearly fee to have access to the site. This will be anywhere between $30 and $50.
Therefore I am asking you for permission to use your work on my website. I will pay for your materials, give you the credit, create a link to your page and give you free membership.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
This is my 9th year teaching. I taught 1st grade for 2 years and have been in kindergarten ever since!

Movement, movement, movement! Because every child learns differently, I teach differently. We sing songs, dance around, have discussions, draw, write, paint, create and role play...EVERY day. {And then some!} All while teaching the Common Core of course! ;)

In college I majored in Early Childhood Education and minored in Psychology.
