There are 5 to summarize in the sorting activity, 2 for them to write their own summaries for, and 4 for them to summarize on the multiple choice quiz. I do not have summarizing for nonfiction yet, but it is one of my planned products. Thank you for your questions :)

I do not work with the common core, but I believe that the summarizing and main idea would be aligned with CCSS ELA-Literacy.RL.3.2 and author's purpose would be aligned with CCSS ELA-Literacy.R.L.3.1 if students are asking the question, "Why did the author write this?" TEACHING EXPERIENCE
This is my 5th year teaching. I taught 4th grade for 3 years and am in my 2nd year of 3rd grade. Becoming a better teacher is constantly on my mind, so I am always striving for improvement. I leave work every day with a sense of accomplishment, and I love what I do! I am so excited to be a part of TPT and to connect with other teachers.
MY TEACHING STYLE
I like to involve students as much as possible with their learning. Because of this, I enjoy using hands on activities in math and using the Daily Five. I love working with small groups or one-on-one with students because that is when I see the most gains. I believe in having students set goals for themselves and charting their own progress. High expectations lead to big gains!
