My Teaching Experience

I have been teaching for 8 years. I currently teach in a Middle School in Glendale Heights, Illinois. I have worked with students from all ability levels and ethnic backgrounds. For the past 3 years our school has been working with looping our students in 7th and 8th grade so my planning process changed greatly as I looked for new activities to do with my students during our second year together.

My Teaching Style

Carefree and fun. I like to offer my students options whenever possible for projects. While I find quality tools in my textbooks I tend to veer away from the book often. I am working on having a much more student-center classroom. My students make a lot of the choices about what they learn. At the start of the year I often let them pick what we will be doing first and last. They hear me say "You pick something, than I will pick something."

Honors/Awards/Shining Teaching Moment

I was selected as a team leader in 2006. Students selected me as the teacher that was the easiest to talk to about school work last year. The Chocolate Moon Goddess Cafe is my shining star teacher moment. Each year I run the cafe for one day and one day only..it is a special poetry reading day that I have got nothing but amazing feedback on form students and staff.
