I hadn't heard this before, so I downloaded the file from the site and printed it on another printer, and I can see that the print is fuzzy on some of the pages. I will correct the problem and have a new version up tomorrow evening (2/7). Check under your "purchases" tab and then you can download the updated file. Hmmm. I've never had anyone say they couldn't download this before, so I'm not sure what the problem is. It downloads as a zip file because the synonyms and antonyms are separate pdf files. The first half of the packet has an activity about persuasive techniques that your sixth graders would love, and you would be able to use the development worksheets but the second half focuses a lot on research, MLA formatting and avoiding plagiarism, and I'm not sure how much of that you do in sixth grade. I hope this helps. Check out my free product with ethos, pathos and logos handouts. Those can be helpful for explaining persuasion.

I also teach college composition and we meet for 4 hours a week for 11 weeks. I spread out elements of this lesson plan for about 8 of those weeks, but include other material as well. The due dates for the different parts (outlining, rough draft etc...) are spread across that time, but the material does not fill up the entire class periods. This is a basic plan for those with little experience writing research papers. Hope this helps!

You mention sentence strips in the directions. Wondering if you make those by taking each 8 1/2 x 11 poster and cutting out the four sentences and using the word at the top (like metaphor) for the category heading. Since i didnb't see any lines or dotted lines dividing the sentences I wasn't sure if that was the intention.

Yes, cut the sentences out and mix them up before you pass them out to the students. You can use the category at the top as the heading (I just write the categories on the white board). I divided them into categories so the file would also serve as the answer key. Hope your students have fun!

Here's what my textbook says: "A split infinitive is acceptable when the intervening modifier is short, especially if the alternative would be awkward or ambiguous." My understanding is that some strict grammarians still use the rule, but in general, it is not frowned upon.

While I think your download is very cute, it's not exactly what I was hoping for. I was looking for an activity or two I could use for word work centers. The download preview didn't really give me an idea at all of what I would be getting. So, based on the description, I thought I would wind up with something I could use. Unfortunately, this hasn't provided me with anything I can use.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but I could I get refunded?

I'm sorry you weren't satisfied with the product. Sellers cannot refund money but TPT has a refund policy as stated: "Refunds on product purchases are made on a case by case basis and are only provided when the product was not as advertised by the seller. If this is the case for you, Contact Us and write a detailed message explaining the situation." I believe the description and preview accurately shows what the product is, but I would certainly like your feedback so I can improve it to avoid confusion. I would like to make this right with you, so if you are denied a refund, or choose not to pursue it, I would be happy to send you another product for free. Hi Laura,
I was wondering what it would take to get just the onomatopoeia poster? I have read the book "Punished" to my 5th graders and they just love the different figurative language posters that you have made, and I showed as the main charater had to find items that fit each type. I don't have the onomatopoeia poster and my students were very disappointed?

Thanks for the cute lessons and worksheets! I wanted to point out an error with the little, littler, littlest pictures...they show the biggest animal as the littlest - they are just out of order. If this can be fixed how do I go about getting the revised download?

Kim, I will fix this tonight and there will be a revised download for you tomorrow. You go to your "purchases" and there will be an updated version. If you have any trouble, e-mail me at laura@lauratorres.com and I will send an updated version. Meanwhile, those are supposed to be matching cards, so once you cut them out, the order doesn't matter, but it was an error and if you are using them in a different way, it would be a problem! Thanks for pointing this out so I can fix it.

The persuasive essay unit is completely different except the "bonus" MLA formatting and avoiding plagiarism sections at the end, which are the same as in the research unit. The persuasive essay unit has my students' all-time favorite pre-writing exercise. I think you'll have fun with it!
