I studied Middle Grades and Art Education. I was a classroom teacher (grades 4th, 5th and 8th for nine and a half years and art for one year), then left to raise my children. I worked as a tutor for several years after leaving the classroom. When my oldest daughter reached kindergarten age, I began homeschooling. It has been a wonderful adventure. As a trained teacher, it came naturally to me. My oldest daughter is now in college, and I have two high school daughters in our homeschool.
We love books, and I am thankful that all of my children are great readers. Although I have purchased some homeschool curriculum materials, I have written most of our curriculum and much of our learning has been based on our reading. Writing plays an essential role in my homeschool as well, and I always incorporate projects and activities to enhance all of the concepts we study.
I knew I had succeeded in making my homeschool curriculum challenging enough when my college daughter reported that the college level workload was an easy adjustment after our intense homeschool schedule.
