Do you teach from a basal reader in addition to your novel study or do you just use trade books? If you do use a basal which series? I am trying to figure the time frame for this unit.

Thanks for the feedback! I use a basal reader occasionally and only if it goes with our theme. Then I kind of do my own thing with it. It is Scott Foresman Reading Street. This unit could take anywhere from a week to two weeks. I think it really depends on how your reading block is set up! The book is a pretty fast read, so we try and do 2 chapters a day. We have a lot of flexibility, so we are able to do some things in the morning and some in the afternoon :) it may be a good unit to do when you have a full week followed by a 2 or 3 day week (when you probably wouldn't do the basal!) hope that helps!
