I have been teaching for 8 years. My first year I spent teaching first grade. Then I went to a a different school and taught kindergarten for 4 years and 4th grade for a year. Last year, I taught 2nd grade and I decided to go back to kindergarten this year. Let's just say I really love teaching kindergarten! For five years, I taught at a Reading First School and received intense training in reading instructional strategies. I have a masters in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
In my classroom, I use cooperative learning strategies and I try to create a soothing atmosphere with a variety of student lead stations/centers. Many of the activities I do in my classroom are hands on. Additionally, I use guided reading, and guided math daily.
There isn't many rewards for excellent teachers other than students enjoying learning.
I am a certified K-6 teacher with extensive training in reading instruction.
I have served on my states math textbook adoption committee and the state Teacher-of-the-Year selection committee. This past summer I had the opportunity to be on the state Service Personel of the Year selection committee.
