Hello, Lisa,

I haven't purchased this product, but I thought the demo was very usable. Are you able to work as an outsourced developer to customize this content according to another template? Feel free to email me at jorgehernandez@paedea.com.

Lisa; I downloaded this product and like what I see. However, the 'Quotable Quote' page does not have a quote at the top. Could you please let me know what quote you used for this activity? Also, how did you actually break down the teaching of the novel? I'm interested to hear from you.

Thank you for purchasing my product! I hope you find it helpful in your classroom. I'm so sorry the quote did not appear on the top of the page...the quote is as follows: “Mica Area High School-MAHS-was not exactly a hotbed of nonconformity. There were individual variants here and there, of course, but within pretty narrow limits we all wore the same clothes, talked the same way, ate the same food, listened to the same music….If we happened to somehow distinguish ourselves, we quickly snapped back into place like rubber bands.” If there is any thing else missing please let me know so I can have you download the item again for free. As far as how I teach the novel, I have taught it many different ways, all depending on the level and ability of the students in my class. I usually spend some time on the pre-reading activities (pages 6-12) before starting the novel. Then from there I take about a chapter or two a day, sometimes we read out loud, partner read, silent read and do then class activities together. I always spend time addressing the Literary Elements as a whole group. I tried to make the guide user friendly to the teacher so that you can use it to fit your teaching style and time frame of your class. I use this curriculum for both my reading and writing curriculum (usually about 90 minutes a day). Thanks again for purchasing my product, after you use it, let me know if there are any ways you feel the product could be improved. I am always up for suggestions! Thank you and have a great day!

This Literature Guide is comprised of mostly higher level thinking questions and writing assignments using the six traits not multiple choice or fill in the blank questions; therefore, an answer key would be hard to include with this product. Thanks for your interest!

I was looking at the preview of the Stargirl Character Traits page and noticed that the word Character at the top is misspelled...anyway to fix that before I order. Thanks

Hi Lisa,
I was wondering if your guide offers any puzzles or similar activities that can be used as kind of a break, but still keep the student(s) on track.
Thanks,
Jodi

I can't say there are puzzles but there are activities to do as a large class. For example, they hold a program of the "hot seat" just like they do in the book with their classmates. But no crossword puzzles. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks for taking the time to look over my product!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

6th grade: Math, Science, Communication Arts (Reading and Language Arts) 7th Grade: Math & Communication Arts I have worked with all types of students (gifted, special ed., and at-risk). Piloted two cutting edge programs for the district The Six Computer Classroom: I was given 6 computers to use in my classroom as a test to see how to incorporate technology more effectively into the every day lessons. I later became a trainer for other teachers on how to effectively use 6 computers in the classroom as well as developed organizational tools for teachers to aid in their planning. I also presented at the “The Governor’s Wisconsin Educational Technology Conference” Determination House: A program that grouped 65 at-risk students together with the goal of increasing their reading level a minimum of two or more years in a one year time period. This was achieved by teaching students strictly according to their learning style. I was trained in teaching students using the multiple intelligence, specifically using strategies that worked with left-brained students. Later I worked as a consultant writing lessons and providing input for an 8th grade group of teachers working to achieve the same goals. I also presented at an at-risk conference sharing the results we achieved through this unique grouping and teaching methods. Other information: mentor teacher, former member of the districts "Differentation Leadership Team", Literacy Team, Technology Team, etc.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to get kids up and moving when learning. I use songs, hands on demonstrations/activities, stations, and games to teach kids important information. Incorporating as many of the multiple intelligences into a lesson has always been a goal of mine. If my students are having fun while they are learning, I know they will be successful in remembering the information. I set high expectations for my students, and believe every student can be successful if given the appropriate tools!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Nominated for the Golden Apple Award (an award that honors exellent teachers in the Brown County Area) and was selected as a "Teacher/Team of Distinction" Selected by the school district to pilot two programs, one regarding technology and the other working with at-risk students. (See Experience)
