Great guide for students as they read. This would also be a great review tool for students with a learning disability.

Where do I begin with my disappointment over the author's lack of candor that precipitated this purchase? There are really only 80 questions; students are requested to supply the part of speech for last 20 vocabulary words. Add the 20/40 vocab terms to the 5 kennings and 5 literary terms and you have half of the test. The remaining questions are unequally divided between Anglo-Saxon material(34 questions) and the Beowulf plot (26 questions). Note that these text questions are based on a book first published in the late 1950s.

Yes, half of the test is multiple choice on Anglo-Saxon background, Beowulf, and A-S poetry ("The Seafarer.") In the description I said this was a learning and assessment tool, as shown in question #45 taken verbatim from the test: "The soul 'drowning in desolation' has religious connotations. This poem is also about moral and religious issues that extend beyond the literal seafaring. The early medieval Christians saw their earthly existence as a pilgrimage or journey whose ultimate goal was heaven; until they were one with God, they were like the seafarer, an exile striving for peace. On a religious level this poem may be interpreted as the _____ between the rigors of religious life, and the delights, comforts, and pleasure of the worldly life.
a. transition b. conflict c. understanding d. obstruction"
I always have parts of speech as the second part of the vocab section; students need to be able to differentiate between a noun and a verb, and unfortunately, many can't. "Adventures in English Literature" has been the standard textbook for Brit Lit classes for decades; consequently, Harcourt, Brace & Jovanovich update and reprint it every couple of years. My TpT description, "This is a 100 question objective test on Beowulf and the Anglo-Saxon time period in British Literature. The test is comprehensive and created to teach as well as assess the material. It includes multiple choice, matching and identification questions. This is a full period test (45 minutes/8 pages long) for college preparatory students who are good readers. The vocabulary study guide reviews the vocabulary in the test," is a good overview of what to expect.

This test is disappointing. I expected more. It merely skims the surface of what is a very probing tragedy. It asks very simplistic, surface questions that have little depth.

This is supposed to be vocabulary worksheets and quizzes. Well, there are worksheets (matching of vocabulary), but no quizzes at all. Unless she means the worksheets are also the quizzes. Misleading and not worth $3.50. Very disappointed.

Alex, I apologize; it was my mislabeling mistake; I accidentally left out the Vocab Test that went with the 75 word worksheet & the worksheet answer key. I will send you the vocab test directly for free if you email me at lonniejonestaylor@gmail.com. Again, I am sorry for the mistake.

This is a perfect tool for the students to use as they independently read portions of the story. Reading for specific detail is a problem I have with my students - they like to read for the general idea - this will require them to pinpoint details.

I just used this as a scavenger hunt type activity with my 9th graders for chapter 1. Worked great, I think they learned a lot. I wouldn't use it as a test but it was perfect for getting a quick overview of the gods and goddesses.

I believe that there were two mistakes. #16 should be Prince and #18 Capulet. Otherwise great practice. Teaches close reading and characterization.

I needed something quick. I was planning to make a test for chapters 4-6 when I thought about checking the site. And there it was a quiz already prepared for chapters 4-6. If you just want a general test of knowledge to see if your children read then this would be a good test to give. Some of the questions I felt would elude my kids because some of the questions asked, I hadn't covered. Overall, I am greatful that I was able to purchase this at the last minute and for three dollars, I can't complain. Thanks!

Really need to provide answer keys. Teachers buy these things to help them save time and having to create an answer key does not help save time. Also, the quiz on Chapters 11-14 is only 3 questions long- kind of a rip off.
