Hi Pat! Nice to hear from you. I'm a member of several collaborative boards but I don't run any. Try looking at the description under the title of a board and see if there's contact info, or ask in the forums to find out who runs a particular board. Hope that helps!

Best regards,

Hi -
I'm an elementary school librarian and see 18 first and second grade classes each week. I saw your note about this resource being licensed for one class - would I be able to use this for my students during their library class? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi there! My take on it is that the buyer (or user in the case of a freebie) can use it in their classroom. If multiple groups enter your classroom, then you can use it for any or all of them. Thanks for asking and enjoy!

I downloaded your Real Monarch Butterflies, and I LOVE the use of real pictures and scientific-representative drawings. However, I am trying to figure out why some of the pages are exact duplicates. (EDIT) Spoke too soon, I see now caterpillar/chrysalis and larva/pupa differences! Thanks for this great product!

Hi Techy Teacher! The repeated pages are only different in the use of the terms larva/pupa OR the terms caterpillar/chrysalis because teachers have different preferences. :)

Hi Jami,

[Update]: I've gotten rid of the ZIP file and have uploaded one PDF with both resources in it. Please download it again and the foldable is at the front. Or email me and I'll email it to you directly.

I double checked and both PDF files are in the ZIP. Could you please check again to see if the Whooo's-In-Our-Class?_Owl-Foldable.pdf is somewhere in your Downloads folder or on your desktop? That is the name of the file..."Get-to-Know-You" is a description rather than the literal name of the file. I'm sorry for any confusion. If you can't find it, please email: meATloreenleedy.com (using the @ symbol).

Do you have any instructions on how to use the freebie png files, e.g. the apple and circle files. How do I insert text or graphics in the middle of them?

Hi teachdad! If you have PowerPoint, you can insert the graphic as a picture, then make a text box inside it. If you want another graphic in it insert it as a picture. You can save PowerPoint as a PDF.

You can use other programs like Pages (Mac). Hope that helps!

Hi Gwendolyn! I'm not that familiar with Word, but you can insert any clip art file into a page. It's "Insert a Picture" I think. Here is a link to a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvrWRixEZE0
And here is the Office Help page on this topic: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/insert-a-picture-HP005189866.aspx

Many teachers use PowerPoint instead because it's easier to move things around, then you can print it out directly from PowerPoint. You would need to add text boxes for words. Hope that helps!

Hi Loreen. I just purchased your Apple Theme Borders and Clipart. It is a wonderful set. Thanks for all your hard work! I can't wait to get to work on my next project. I was just wondering if it would be possible to add a clip of the tree without the apples on it to the set? It would allow me to customize the number of apples on the tree for some counting activities. Thanks :) Jill

Loreen Leedy  (TpT Seller)
Hi Jill! Thanks so much for asking about a tree with no apples. I was going to have one, then totally forgot about it...! I also added another small apple so there's one with a slight tilt plus one that's straight. There are 3 new "headers," a row of apples to go along the top or bottom of a vertical page. So, now there are 47 files total. Have fun creating with them!

Dear Ms. Leedy,
I love your books, and your products on TpT. I am a resource teacher for primary G/T students, and in that capacity I use your creations. I would like to create some units to sell on TpT using your books. May I have your permission to do so? Also, if this is ok with you, would you have your own clip art that I might possibly use, or should I just use other clip art that I have? You can see my products in my store: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Browse/Search:sue+wind. Thank you for all you do for children's literature!
Sincerely, Sue Wind

Hi Sue, thanks for asking! Please feel free to make resources to accompany my books. Publishers don't want images from inside the books used or quoting too much text. It's best to use clip art that doesn't look like what's in the book so there's no question of copyright infringement. As an example, use a generic Boston terrier or some other dog for Measuring Penny. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Loreen Leedy  (TpT Seller)
Hi! One fun idea for Measuring Penny is to have kids bring in a stuffed animal and measure it in various ways. Another idea is to have kids trace around a ruler on a large piece of construction paper and draw in the inch or centimeter marks. Then they draw something "interesting" for Lisa to measure like a baby dinosaur, a fairy, an alien, etc. Hope that helps and thanks for asking!

hi loreen,
i have several of your books in my k classroom....you do a wonderful job with your writing for young children...i always look for your books when i am in the bookstore or online looking for new books to include in my curriculum. I was lurking around tpt in hopes to find some fraction lessons (basic ones part/whole, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4) and stumbled upon your post...never dreaming a book writer would come to a teacher store....
anyhoo.....i like the christmas tree project....i was wondering if you could include a blackline of the project...i wouldn't be able to print 22 copies for my kiddos in color....but i could do it on construction paper and let them add color/details to snowflakes if it was in black and white form...no problem if it can't be done....keep on writing!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I'm the author-illustrator of 40+ picture books used in elementary classrooms and by homeschoolers across the USA and internationally. TPT members may be familiar with Measuring Penny, Fraction Action, or Crazy Like a Fox: A Simile Story among many other titles with math, language arts, science and other curriculum content. As I develop and post my classroom resources, I love to hear feedback from the experts (you!)

MY TEACHING STYLE

My picture books introduce topics in an engaging visual way, often with multicultural children or animal characters. For TPT, my goal is to create attractive materials that students will have fun with while they're learning something new or reviewing topics they've already been taught. Grade 2 is a typical level for my books but it varies and they are regularly used in lower and higher grades than I'd originally imagined.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My books have been honored by The National Science Teachers Association, the American Library Association, the Florida Book Awards, and the Parent's Choice Awards, among others.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

After earning a B.A. in Art, a few years later I signed my first publishing contract at the age of 25. Since then I have learned how to illustrate and design my books using digital tools (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) mostly by reading how-to books and reading/watching online tutorials. I have visited hundreds of elementary schools in my career and from the start have been inspired by what teachers make happen in classrooms every day. It's fun to see the student projects, bulletin boards, posters, anchor charts, and other "stuff". And now with my Pinterest boards I can see classroom stuff anytime, which has been so motivating!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Please visit my blog and web site via www.LoreenLeedy.com. My husband Andy is a scientist working at Kennedy Space Center and we live in central Florida.
