TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I taught full day kindergarten for 10 years before leaving to be a full time mother. I have 2 boys (4 and 5) both of whom love to learn. We do tons of learning activities together every day. When I was a teacher, I often created my own materials for my classroom. I felt that I had more control of the work this way. I often was known to say a text book is a tool, not a tool box. I utilized a thematic approach which tends to help all learning styles.
MY TEACHING STYLE
Thematic teaching, whole language with a focus on phonics, inventive spelling. I have a strong math background utilizing NCTM standards. I also have a strong understanding of teaching inclusion classrooms and modifying lessons for children who have learning needs and gifted students.
HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT
School math specialist (k-2), member of school advisory council, nominated for Disney's Teacher of the Year
MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY
BA in human growth and development with a concentration in early childhood. EdM in elementary education with a concentration on early childhood. I also earned my ESOL certification
ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
I have taught in a day care and 3 different public schools before leaving to be a parent of my two sons 4 and 5. I know what a teacher needs, what a parent wants and how to find the balance of the two. I have to time to make the things you want and don't have time to do!
