smithss11 re: French Revolution Card Game: Apples 2 Apples
I am sorry, I don't understand how to play the game. How many cards does each student get? What are the green cards and where are the adjectives? Do you cut the cards out with the names on them? ex.( Czar Alexnader I) The vocabulary and the pics are super. I love the cards. I cannot wait to play the game.

The rules are up to you in terms of how many cards each player gets. I give each player 5 red cards (did the cards not show up as green or red?)
Yes, you have to cut the cards out with the name on them. I also wrote the word "Red" (Czar Alexander) with a red marker on the back of each card. I had a student assistant do this and laminate them. I do the same thing with the adjective cards (sad, angry, mad).
Next, I will put 5 kids in each group. Every round, one player will grab a "green" card from the deck. This makes that player the judge. She will read the green card out loud and lay it down for the other players to see. The other players will look at the card the judge put down. They will look at their red cards and determine which card they have best matches the green card. They will put their "red" card face down on the table. The judge will shuffle the cards and decide which one they feel best matches their green card. For example, if the judge put down a green card that says "Angry" and I play a red card that says "Robespierre" and you play "Napoleon's Mule," my card would most likely win because the judge would say that "Robespierre" was an angry man and a mule just does as the rider says. However, it is totally up to the judge to determine which card she wants to win. They could say mules are "angry" when they kick which would make you the winner. You will receive the green card and keep it since you won the round. Now players will draw another red card and the person to the right of the judge will become the new judge. Also, this is based on an "honors system" where people do not lie and say they put down the winning card. I have never seen that happen before though.
The first player to get 3 green cards will become the winner of the entire game!

Since there are only about 80 Red cards, you may have to recycle the cards during the game once players start running out of new cards. This is good, because they are able to keep going over the essential vocab.

I hope this helps explain the rules. Please let me know if the cards are not showing up in color and I will send you a PDF file. Nobody has said the cards were not in color though...strange. Have fun!

Hi, I was wondering what song or beat you had in mind when you wrote this music. I'm trying to find a background song that I could use and have not been successful.

These are just the lyrics. However, they go with "The Whisper Song" by the ying yang twins. If you go to youtube and type in "whisper song instrumental ying yang" you should find a beat like it.

I used the song "In da club" by 50 Cent. If you go on Youtube and type "In da club instrumental" you should find one that matches the actual song. I used this one but their could be a better one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G68bCXbZvjg.
A part I always like to introduce before the song is performed is where Napoleon "winks" at the czar's wife which seems to have a lot of truth to it. Anyway, enjoy!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 6 years in the Elkhart Community Schools system. I graduated from Indiana University. I have coached wrestling and football.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe learning should be fun and enganging. I always thought my favorite teachers were the ones who brought the lesson to life. Whether it be through a reenactment, song, or poem, the students should be learning. This is why I started performing songs in my class. If I'm rapping, the kids are not napping. We often forget kids have some serious issues going on their home life. If we can bring a little pleasure to a child's life, than maybe we can bring a child to life. My user name is M and M because my wife (Mrs. Meyers) and I perform songs in each other's classes. We also have a guy named Miller to our edu-rap group named Miller. We were thinking about going by the name 3M but decided that would be connected with the tape company which is not that cool. Here is a rap Video of M&M (Meyers and Miller) doing our Russian Revolution Rap. Super goofy and it was our first time, but might give you an idea of what we do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5gqO3GIEN8
