Hi Mack -
I've been a subscriber to Scholastic's Scope and love all your read-alouds. I use them with my general English students. Have you ever written one for To Kill a Mockingbird (or would consider it)? Thanks so much for your great work. :) -Tracee

I'm truly flattered by your compliment, Tracee. Thank you. I consider Mockingbird to be the true "Great American Novel." Creating a twenty minute play from it would be a tall order, but it gives me an excuse to go re-read it to see what I might be able to craft. Thanks again.

...Alas, I neglected to consider copyright. Because Mockingbird was originally copyrighted in 1960, it'll be another 20 years before I can legally sell an adaption of it. I'd encourage you to try writing one (or have your students write one) for use in class.

I purchased this Reader's Theater last week and made only one incomplete copy because my printer ran out of ink. I'm now ready to complete my printing. How can I do this without having to re-purchase? Thanks, M. Mahoney

I'm not entirely sure, as it has something to do with how TpT set up the site, but I'd be happy to e-mail you a PDF of the play. E-mail me at lewis@jeffnet.org and I'll take care of you. Have a great week!

tamakers re: Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol classroom play script
How long is the play? Is the script the complete story?

Mack Lewis  (TpT Seller)
Thanks for the question. The script is not the complete story--it has been shortened to accommodate readers in grades 4 through 6 (though I've used it with third graders and I know of other teachers who have used it with 7th graders). It has seven scenes: Scrooge's office when his nephew comes calling; Marley's visit; Christmas past; Christmas present; Christmas future (graveyard); Christmas morning when he awakes; Scrooge's office when he surprises Bob with merriment. All together it's about 20 minutes when performed. Good luck.

Just FYI, there is a typo on the last page of the Birmingham Children's Crusade play. In the second column, Reporter #2 says, "Downtown is there's!" It should be "theirs" instead of there's.

Otherwise, great product! Thanks for writing so many great plays. I'm sure I'll download more in the future.

Hi Mack-
I can't find your read aloud plays on "Symbols of America" at TpT or Scholastic. Can you help? I'm looking for info on Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, specifically and thought your book might include this.

Thanks so much!

Hi Beth. The only place Symbols is available is on Scholastic's e-book site here: http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com/read-aloud-plays-symbols-of-america. Unfortunately I did not do a play about either Ellis Island or the Statue of Liberty. (Seem like they'd be no brainers now, huh?) Sorry I couldn;t be more helpful.

bethmoore re: Class Money: The Checkbook Project class economy financial literacy
I am presenting my mini-economy system at a catholic schools conference in November. Would you mind if I included your packet & your website? I have utilized a mini-economy in my classroom since I have been teaching! We even take it to where students have to run a "store" and produce a good to sell. Last year the 6th grade teacher jumped on board and her class had to make, market & produce goods to sell to my class as suppliers (like how Walmart orders their products from a supplier). This year the 4th grade teacher is having her class mass produce an item that will be sold at my store! The children absolutely love it! The store is then opened up to the entire school! We provide the money (students make) to the other teachers and the kids come to the store to buy their products! During the 3rd & 4th quarter, the students must then pay income tax based upon what they make! (They really don't think it is right to loose their money to taxes! It is comical!) The parents think it is a wonderful thing too! Great system!

I would be interested in using some of your materials on my website universalhomeschool.com (this website is due to be released in August 2011). The site will mainly focus on teaching videos for children who are being homeschooled, or need the extra help. We will offer math, reading and writing. I started building this site about a year ago and during this time I have been creating videos, quizzes, worksheets and lesson plans. I originally wanted a site that would be available for free to parents and teachers. Unfortunately because of the cost of the hosting, development, materials, and other overheads having a free site would be impossible so I will be charging a yearly fee to have access to the site. This will be anywhere between $30 and $50.
Therefore I am asking you for permission to use your work on my website. I will pay for your materials, give you the credit, create a link to your page and give you free membership.
If you are not interested, that is fine I understand. Let me know if you would like to discuss another agreement.
Thanks
Gary Joseph

We plan to have Day 2 for each of the current grades done by September 1, and we also hope to have Day 1 for blended classrooms done soon as well. Our goal is to eventually have three days for all elementary grades.

Hi. I suspect it is something internal with TpT,as it should have happened automatically. I also suspect if you contact TpT, they'll take awhile to resolve the problem, but if you e-mail me at lewis@jeffnet.org, I'll e-mail you back a PDF version immediately. Sorry about the trouble, and enjoy the play.
