Rebekah Brock  (TpT Seller)
I LOVE your syllables activity and have actually developed a sequence of activities to to teach/extend this concept, with your Beats on the Body activity being the starting lesson. I've been sharing the sequence (and sending people to your fabulous blog and that activity on TpT) with my fellow teachers, all of whom have said that others would benefit from having access to a plan to teach syllables using the sequence of lessons I've used. I've looked around and found others using a concept similar to yours to introduce syllables (the hand, elbow, shoulder sequence of movements), none of which has credited you directly. I'd love to broaden the circle of teachers who have access to this sequence, but I don't want to post a product for sale here if you are the creator of the concept and would prefer that it remain exclusive to your store. Would you let me know if it's O.K. with you to extend your original activity or if you'd prefer that I not? I appreciate your response, either way. Thanks, Malia!

UPDATE: So, I just went back to your blog and found your original post in which you said that you got the idea from Deb Cooper. I'll try and contact her. Thanks! R

I really like these as an intro to the concept/ rule. I have an idea -- I'd love these posters with the poster letters in lowercase --this would help my visual kids since most words they encounter will be in lowercase. Thank you for hearing my idea.

Great suggestion! I'll add a lowercase version of the poster pack to my to-do list and let you know as soon as it's available. :)

Hi Stacey! This set of editable activities is a follow up to the two free sight word games that you can download here:

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/2-Fun-Filled-Sight-Word-Games-Free-Printable

The free version uses the 24 most common written words in English but the editable version allows you to type in any words you choose.

Hope that helps clarify! :)

Malia,
I am looking for a game that teaches my kiddos about syllables. I am really confused at to what the body parts ie the shoulder, the elbow, and the hand have to do with syllables? As I was reading the instructions, the really baffled me. Will you please help me clarify the instructions?

RE Editable Sight Word Games
Hi Malia
These are FANTASTIC games! but you have them here in a PDF format. How is that editable? I thought you would have to put them on TPT as a WORD document.
Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks so much :)

Hi! I'm happy to help clarify:

1. Open the PDF.
2. Click on one of the grey rectangles.
3. Type in the word you'd like to use.
4. Continue clicking on grey rectangles and entering words until all of the spaces have been filled.

Viola! Your game is ready. :)

I hope that helps! Let me know if you're still having trouble and I'll come up with a Plan B.

Hi
What letters do you put on the three cubes to give kids the most chance to actually make a word?

Malia at Playdough to Plato
Great question! I share a tutorial on my website here-

http://www.playdoughtoplato.com/2012/05/02/word-rocket/

But the basics are-

You'll need three game dice: two with consonants and one with vowels. To make them, write a letter on each of the dot stickers. You’ll need twelve consonant letters. My favorite consonants are: [c, d, t, l, m, p, r, n, b, g, h, s]. Attach one of the dots to each of the sides on two dice.To make the last die, use a different colored marker to write six vowel letters like those written on the pink dots (above). Vowels are the letters [a, e, i, o, u and sometimes y]. Using a different colored marker will help your child quickly identify those letters as vowels.

I was wondering if you had the blank templates for both of these games? I would love to change up the sight words, but use the same games. If so, could you please e-mail them to me at clara.lee@cogeco.ca? Thank you so much! Love both of the games!

Hi Rosa,

Any lowercase letter magnets will work with the activities. I've seen them for sale at the Dollar Store, Target and local drugstores. Check the kids' section of the office supply aisle. :)

Warmly,

Do you have anything in Spanish? I'm a preschool teacher and teach in both languages, English and Spanish. This would be great for English but how about Spanish instruction?
